One post every 12 hours

Today I’m starting an experiment: I plan to publish a post once every 12 hours for the next week.

I’m doing this because there’s a little graveyard of ideas on my iPhone. I have a note called “Post ideas,” and it’s accumulated over 50 disembodied titles. Each of those grew out of an inspired moment, and sadly many of those glimmers of excitement have faded with time.

I was recently introduced to the concept of a change element. I don’t have a formal definition, but as I understand it, the idea is to give your workflow a meaningful kick — a change that pushes you out of a status quo mindset. Without a kick like this, it seems to be human nature to revert to your old comfort zone working style. If this experiment is successful, I’ll post more often and internally feel a lower barrier to sharing ideas.

My specific goal is to have two deadlines every day: one at noon, and one at midnight. This is the first post. The last, summarizing how the experiment went, will be posted by midnight next Thursday. If things go well, I’d love to share what worked and perhaps help you keep your best ideas from fading away unshared.

Addendum: I’ve successfully finished this experiment. Read about what happened.
