Martial arts popularly comprises various systems for combat training arranged for several reasons: physically defeating opponents, defending against threats, participating in tournaments, mental and spiritual development, entertainment, or preservation of cultural heritage. Being a third-degree black belt in TaeKwonDo, Kimana NeilStrong’s journey was anything but easy.

Like most martial artists, he has also suffered significant injuries that prevented him from doing what he loved the most. During this fitness and taekwondo training, he mostly injured his knees, hamstrings, lower back, and shoulders. These common injuries in martial arts are usually caused by incorrect approaches to training, outdated stretching techniques, improper diet and nutrition plan, or overextension of muscles without regularly developing body flexibility and strength.

During his recovery and rehabilitation periods, he would look for ways to minimize physical injuries caused by martial arts and fitness training. To boost his knowledge of fitness enhancement and injury prevention, he trained and acquired certifications in nutrition, sports performance enhancement, and personal training. As a certified personal trainer, he specializes in corrective exercise, sports performance (especially flexibility and jumping), youth exercise, and nutrition. He also took a Master’s Degree majoring in Exercise Science from Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus and graduated top of his class with a 4.0 GPA.

His university education, formal training, specializations, and practical experience makes him a well-equipped and fully-rounded trainer for martial artists and other individuals to reach their fitness and health goals. In light of the information he has gathered, he established Athletic Performance and Injury Prevention for Martial Arts (APIP Martial Arts) to share his knowledge with the world.

Kimana aims, through APIP Martial Arts, to teach martial artists and other individuals to increase their sports performance, strengthen their weak links, and reinforce their strengths with smart and scientifically-proven training. In crafting a training formula for his clients, he takes into account their existing physical attributes, nutritional practices, injuries, fitness goals, and willingness to learn.

After careful analysis of the client’s present physical state, Kimana, through his website, explains that the core philosophy for mastering the martial art involving high kicks includes key components in sports science. These include plyometrics, flexibility and mobility, core fitness, balance and stability, strength, and healthy joints and muscles. The training from APIP Martial Arts will help martial artists to improve their physical fitness so that they can become more formidable opponents in sparring, patterns/Poomsae/forms, and showcasing basic, intermediate, and advanced martial arts kicks. Furthermore, this training minimizes the occurrence of physical injuries.

To broaden his scope for training individuals, he also offers his training and expertise online. His intensive nutrition, fitness, athletic performance training, and coaching through online platforms, transform the participants to be the best version of themselves.
