Palestine Retrospective: The Old City of Jerusalem

A city at the epicentre of the three major monotheistic religions. For most of my life, I’ve heard and read stories from this region: it was surreal being here.

The Masjid Al-Aqsa is the third holiest mosque in Islam (after the Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah and the Masjid An-Nabawi in Madinah). This was the original site towards which all Muslims prayed, until it was directed to turn towards the Kaaba in Makkah.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre contains the two most holiest sites in Christianity: the site where Jesus (pbuh) was crucified and Jesus’ empty tomb where he is said to have been buried and resurrected.

The Western Wall was part of the Second Jewish Temple by Herod which encased the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism. With it being the closest wall to the Mount, the Western Wall is the holiest site where Jewish people can pray.
