The first week of April is a time for faculty, staff, and institutions to recognize the contributions of graduate and professional students. Our students spend countless hours studying, reading, writing papers, and prepping for presentations; they are parents and full-time employees; they are doing research and are involved with fellowship and internship programs. Since we were all back in person, I had been looking forward to this week, too, as one of my students said, “spoil” them.

The MPP students know that I usually don’t leave “healthy” snacks in the grad student lounge, and this week was no exception. The SPP hosted a variety of snacks throughout the week: popcorn, cookies, ice cream, and breakfast for dinner — by far, this was the most popular day (next year, I plan on adding Pop Tarts to the menu). Since summer decided to come to Riverside early, a close second would be ice cream day.

As part of the week, I put together a wall of appreciation for our students from our faculty. If you know any of our MPP students, you know what the faculty say below is accurate. I am lucky to know these students, and I look forward to all they will accomplish.
