The Education Equity Team is aiming to bring new resources to low-income schools within San Diego County. We are currently creating a ten-week program teaching children human-centered design while improving literacy. Overall the program will help improve comprehension and collaboration skills while promoting the importance of their education as it applies to real-world scenarios. By focusing on a problem within their community and implementing a solution, the students will be able to see how their hard work can help improve the tangible world. These new forms of application-based thinking are used mostly in high-income schools, but we aim to make a digestible program that can be used by schools of any bracket and give all students access to quality education!

Vy Huynh, Team Lead: “Growing up in Oakland, you can really see first-hand how the quality of education can have a strong effect on the choices people make. It is easy to put the responsibilities on the kids, but there are a variety of factors such as the teachers they get, the funding they receive, and the resources available for them to use. I do not think a person’s circumstances, especially when the odds are against them, should be forced into becoming part of a statistic. My team and I are very excited and passionate about this topic as well and we have been putting in countless hours on this project. We are hoping that our project will help create a fun learning experience for kids that promotes critical thinking and creativity.”
