When I am writing a novel on Vidura,a character in the Mahabharata, many of my friends suggested me to be loyal to the original epic story. But what is the use of copying the original? The story begins with births of three children. In the original some sage named Vyasa comes and has coitus with the woman. The woman seeing his dark complexion and ugly demeanor is frightened and she closes her eyes. And the child is born blind. On another occasion he had coitus with another woman. She becomes nervous and she gives birth to a child having red skin. My objection to the original story is that scientifically it is not possible. Can woman give birth to a blind child simply because she closes her eyes as soon as she sees him. I have changed the original story giving it a realistic outlook. While writing about a character in an epic we can interpret the character the way I look at it, right?
