small tips for IITG Freshers

Tip #1 Make your property unique.

This is the time of the year most stuff especially cycles are lost/stolen.

If you want a proof, checkout the timeline in the fb group: IITG lost & found (you may need authentication first)

So grab a whitener, start writing your Name and/or Room No on every stuff you bought, some important stuff to mark are :

# Your Cycle (MUST)

# Buckets, Mug & plastic trays

# Chair

# On the side of your mattress (Required when you store them during holidays)

# ED : Mini Drafter & the paper holder (you may soon buy these & Don’t buy the ED compass box [see tip 4])

# Common looking bags like Laptop bags (They mostly get exchanged at libraries)

Tip #2 Maintain Memos in your phone

I highly recommend using memos to do the following tasks-

# Some instant ideas to develop upon

# Plans for the week

# Points noted down from club orientations & other events

# Keeping track of “Udhaari” (Some might prefer using apps)

Tip #3 Start answering things on Quora

(those who don’t have laptop may go to CC or use mobile)

Add the topics that you are interested in, and start helping people! This is a good habit, it does actually more to you than the readers. I suggest maintaining at least 2 answers a week. You may guide JEE aspirants on preparation, share some techniques you know, etc.

Tip #4 Buying stuff

Soon you will be required to buy some of the following things-

# ED stuff : you need only the mini drafter & paper case. DO NOT buy ED-compass box (which costed around 700 or more), IT WAS NEVER REQUIRED FOR THE COURSE.

# Lab Coat : Try getting it from seniors for cheaper (or free) prices. Otherwise you may also pair up with guys in other shift i.e. Morning/Afternoon labs to use one coat.

# Sports shoes & equipments : The most convenient way is to order online. It usually comes in 4–5 days.

Soon you shall join the Buy/Sell group on FB.

Tip #5 Keep checking mails, notice boards, etc

Soon you will receive your id & password for the intranet access. There is a notice board of every department, on the intranet. Go to CC to check your webmail & notice board. Many a times they release important notices in the Stud.Affair section & admin section.
