As part of my 10kDesigners assignment, I crafted a one-page website for an anime clothing brand.

Problem Statement

Finding high-quality, stylish, and unique anime-themed apparel is challenging. Fans struggle with websites that appear untrustworthy and cluttered, offering poorly presented products. Endless scrolling and a lack of specific collections add to the frustration.

🎯If simply put, the challenge is to

To create a visually appealing and functional landing page for an anime-themed clothing store, that stands out from the competition.

📌Key Objectives

  • Variety: Offer a diverse range of anime-themed apparel to cater to different tastes and preferences.
  • Customization: Allow customers to personalize their designs, creating a unique shopping experience.
  • Quality: Ensure all products meet high standards of quality, both in material and print.
  • User Experience: Provide an engaging and seamless online shopping experience.
  • Community Building: Foster a community of anime fans through exclusive offers and a club membership.

Understanding the Problem & Research Approach

This project stemmed from a personal struggle to find high-quality, stylish, and unique anime-themed apparel. Like many others, I found it challenging to find clothing that accurately represents my favorite series and characters and that is both fashionable and durable. Common issues observed in the anime clothing segment include endless scrolling, a lack of specific section collections, and untrustworthy, template-based websites.

Pain Points & Key Findings

  • Limited Availability: High-quality anime-themed apparel is often hard to find.
  • Customization Needs: Fans desire personalized designs that resonate with their unique tastes.
  • Quality Concerns: Existing options may lack material quality and print durability.
  • Engagement: Lack of engaging platforms catering to anime fans’ apparel needs.

Intended Audience

  1. Anime Fans: Ages 15–35, interested in anime series and conventions.
  2. Cosplayers: Ages 18–30, passionate about authentic cosplay outfits.
  3. Collectors: Ages 20–40, seek rare and limited edition anime merchandise.
  4. Fashion Enthusiasts: Ages 16–30, mix anime-themed apparel with trendy fashion.

Secondary research: Analyzing the competition

Existing fashion e-commerce platforms primarily cater to mainstream clothing styles, typically only placing logos or low-quality designs on generic apparel. I identified a gap for a platform specifically focused on anime-inspired clothing.

Anime clothing brands often need more user-friendliness, transparency, and diverse options. My goal was to create an app that addresses these issues, offering a seamless user experience and catering to the unique needs of anime enthusiasts.

Competitor analysis

Insights

  • Existing anime merchandise platforms lack user experience, authentic designs, and diversity in catering to anime fandoms.
  • Create a platform that focuses on trust, showcases artists, and offers various apparel options. Unique features include anime-themed backgrounds, diverse collections, customization options, and community engagement.
  • A deep understanding of anime enthusiasts’ desires, targeted audience identification, and competitor analysis were pivotal in shaping our anime clothing brand’s unique features and functionalities.

Visual Design

During the design process, I sought inspiration from both online sources and physical products such as posters and merchandise. My mood board featured a variety of elements, including characters and individuals wearing unique t-shirts, as well as imaginary characters. This diverse collection of references helped fuel my creativity and guided my design choices.

To arrive at the final version of my anime clothing landing page, I went through over 30 iterations, refining layouts, fonts, and other design elements to achieve an authentic anime feel. The most time-consuming aspect was determining the key information to display in each section and clarifying the purpose of each section.

Learning outcomes 📝

If you are not progressing you’re regressing. With each project I tackle, I strive to learn something new and apply those lessons to the next one.

1. Knowing which feedback to act on and which to leave is crucial, as there will often be conflicting opinions. What helped me decide was understanding the “why” behind the feedback and the scope of the project.

2. The future is AI, and it is here to stay. ChatGPT became my go-to content writer, and I relied heavily on it to polish the content at every stage.

3. Crafting style guides and utilizing components turbocharged my design workflow!

4. Documentation is just as crucial as the design itself. I made sure to jot down notes at every step, making it a breeze to revisit and understand my design choices later.

And that’s a wrap! I’ve enjoyed working on it! I’m thankful to the mentors (Ansh and Vishant) and peers at 10kDesigners for their invaluable feedback and support. Their assistance was vital in bringing this project to life.
