The Judgmental Us
All of us are judgmental. It is not something to be ashamed since it is natural to all of us. For ages this custom of judging the people by their looks and appearances, that is by their face value, has persisted. And it not just is limited to the looks. In our day to day conversations we judge other people without realizing how we would respond had we been in their shoes.

We live in a judgmental society which makes us very cautious of our looks and actions. Its more like a loss of freedom to be be always wary of how we look since there will always be a second person passing comments. Looks can be deceptive as we all know. We always judge a book by its cover without knowing the content in it. If we are fat, people think we eat too much, well maybe our body type is that way; if we score less, people think we are academically weak, maybe we have some emotional problems; if we are not well groomed, people think we are financially weak, well maybe our clothes were dirty. The problem is that people “think” too much.

We judge people without knowing the whole story. We think we understand but, trust me, we don’t. The judge-mentality of people often lead to misunderstandings. The other day I asked my classmate to give me a ride home. He told me he was in a rush. That made me think he is lying and is just not helpful. The following day he himself offered me a ride home, apologizing for not being able help me the previous day.
So let’s stop being so judgmental and harsh to everyone who does not fit into our boxed-in perceptions of what is right. Let’s try to be curious not judgmental. Let’s judge people only by the content of their character. Since this behavior is so natural to us, we should control ourselves in not being so abrupt and vague in our thoughts. Let’s start seeing the world with our heart than our eyes because the heart can the beauty that lies within; it can see the love more than the eyes can wonder. There is a quote which reads ‘Every time we judge someone we reveal a part of ourselves that needs healing’. Well the incident above revealed the part of me that needed healing . I hope you find yours soon.
