Ironhack week 6 recap. Advanced Rails, last class week!

Last week of classes at Ironhack: learning more and more about RoR, and the Typeform hackathon on Saturday.

Classes are over :( but I learnt a huge amount of stuff this 6 weeks so I’m happy! Now it’s time to work on our final projects until the hackshow on August 7th, when we will show off the result of this upcoming 2 crazy coding + coding + coding weeks.

With the guidance of Wojciech, this week we worked on more advanced stuff on Rails, such as building APIs, user management, more complex testing, mailing… I loved it, and like always, it was crazy how many things I could learn in just 4 days.

If 5 days of intense coding wasn’t enough, we spent the whole Saturday at Typeform for a hackathon. I was teamed with Jacobo and Jose, two ironhack classmates, and there we built Pickalo, a decision making mobile app, using the typeform API, Rails and Ionic framework.

The app works as follows: imagine that you are going out in 10 minutes, but you don’t know what to wear. Then, you open Pickalo, you take two or three pictures with different outfits, type the question, and the app will give you a link to a typeform form, which you can share with your friends so they can vote and help you decide.

It was really fun building it in just 12 hours, and also the other participants and the atmosphere there were amazing. I’m looking forward to another hackathon as soon as possible!

And that’s right, we won the price for the “most popular” project! Even if we had some last time problems and the app almost broke down right in the final presentation… :P

And that was it for this week! Not bad, right? Now, as I said, it’s time to focus on our final projects, and work hard to build best app possible!

See you guys soon, I’ll keep you posted!
