The Spirit of God

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).

Jesus tells us the very nature of God, and the nature of the worship true believers are to give to Him. God is a Spirit. What that tells me is that, God as a Spirit is One Complete God. Even if He were to possess a body as a Spirit, or to take on another form, He is still essentially a Spirit.

I am no theologian, and don’t plan to be one. The doctrine of the Trinity is a doctrine I have always accepted as true, as a believer, and decided that it would be something God would explain to me in Heaven…how He can be both the Father and the Son. This doctrine teaches that God has three forms… That is Father (a human likeness), Son (a human form) and Holy Spirit (a spirit). According to this doctrine, the three are One God, and individually God too.

The popular song, “Holy, Holy, Holy”, by Reginald Heber, has at its climax “God in three persons, blessed Trinity“. However, I recently got a different understanding of this relationship, between God and Jesus and the Spirit they share…
