I’ve noticed that almost all software targeted to corporative or governmental sector should be difficult a priori. Why it happened so? After 13 years in IT I know exactly why firstly useful products became UI monsters. There two main reasons:

  • Gerontocracy. Yes, there are many budget holders the older the 60 years. These people can’t make progressive decisions about modern and convenient UI, they look at software based on they own vision about software interface from late 60–70'. At times, it very hard to convince them of the opposite and clearly better solution.
Is it useful for you now? :( Yes!!! It is exactly what we need so! You’re genius!
  • Fear. Budget holders often confused a clean design and primitivism. Time by time after presentation I could hear from our client something like this — Yes, product is working. But how can I pay you ******$ for two buttons? Could you add few tabs, top-menus and several extra buttons? :)

All these reasons are understandable. The main goal of all business — is to earn money, thus programmers companies have to do what a client ask to do. What I could recommend you guys? Put to contract an item that a design creating based on client’s SUGGESTIONS, not client’s OWN DESIGN. That's simple, right? The tip helped us many time and, I convince, it can help you to save UI of you product. Take care of your psyche and good luck! :)
