I suppose that also the transactions in $ (and in other currency) increased a lot. Why have you not done a research on that before writing the article?
In Zimbabwe people were in the same situation and switched to other currencies. What is the advantage of BTC against $? That BTC can lose 13% overnight for no reason? I am sorry for the Venezuelans.
More in general: the situation in Venezuela is liked to corruption and bad governance, among the others. Bitcoin can not fix that. After few centuries of technological progresses it should be clear that a technical tool (like Bitcoin, a piece of code) can only eventually make our life a little easier (if used correctly).
Mobile phones and social networks helped to ignite the Arab Spring: now all those Countries enjoy democracy, respect of human rights and prosperous economy, right?
Bitcoin will not solve the problems of Venezuela. Venezuelans should do that, with or without crypto.
