Behind the Lens — Lady Who Chops

Lady Who Chops

Featured in National Geographic, Daily Dozen

Old Market, Siem Reap, Cambodia

The axe, the tuna, the gloves. The attitude. Nobody messes with the lady who chops. Stepping in the old market in Siem Reap was like stepping into another world — here women rule, sell and decide. They lift, carry, chop and give the commands. Unlike anywhere else in Cambodia where the role of the woman is mainly the housekeeping, tending after children and rice fields.
