Step-1: The moment your computer boots and your login screen are visible. The user image is going to display next to the user name. This image is a similar one that you have uploaded on the Microsoft Account.
Note: In case you have more than one account then in such scenario you need to select that user account from the list of user accounts. This option you will get on the Windows Login Screen. Else you can click at the top of the start menu (or Start screen), and you can click it to log off and switch user accounts.
Step-2: A number of time users don’t prefer using their personal image and the default images are terrible. In such a situation it’s best to remove it.
Step-3: Once the existing image is removed, you can disable the feature via Registry or using Group Policy Editor.
Note: Don’t forget to create a restore point before beginning with the methods.
Step-4: Replace the Default PNG. For this, you need to open the “File Explorer” and under the “View” option find the enable the hidden folder option. Then also enable the option of Visibility for extensions of files.
Step-5: Now, follow the path C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures.
Step-6: Once you locate the User Account Pictures, and then select the images with the name user.png, user-32.png, user-40.png, user-48.png, and user-192.png files. After this rename the extension to any random name user.png.twc and so on.
Step-7: In the next step, create a PNG image of size 192X192 for this you can prefer any of your favorite image editors. Later save that with the relevant name. The image is of transparent background so it won’t be visible.
Note: If you wish to have a diverse image then you can create a picture with the same name and resolution and put it here.
Step-8: In case you are disabling via Registry Editor we are still somewhere forcing the OS to use the default image that is placed by us for all the users. Firstly, Open the Registry Editor and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Step-9: Now, right-click anywhere on the blank screen in the right pane.
Step-10: Next, select the New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Step-11: Now you need to set the name as UseDefaultTile
Step-12: Here, Double-click on UseDefaultTile to edit value. Then Set 1 for the Value Data.
Step-13: Procedure for Disable via Group Policy Editor
- Open the Group Policy Editor and follow the path to:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\User accounts
Here, search the policy which says “Apply the default account picture to all users”. You need to double-click on it to open its “configuration panel.” Choose the “Enabled” and click on OK/Apply and exit.
