Entry Clearance As Tier 1 Exceptional Talent

This category of visa is for individuals who have been internationally acknowledged to be principal talents (exceptional talent) or potential world-leading talents (exceptional promise) in fields as science, humanities, engineering, medicine, digital technology or the arts, and wish to work in the UK. These individuals must be internationally recognized at the highest level as world leaders in their specific field of expertise, or have already exhibited unprecedented capability and are likely to become superior in their field of expertise.

Application Process

· You first need to apply to the Home Office for endorsement as a leader or an emerging leader in your particular field.

· Then, once you have been endorsed, you can apply for the visa. You should request a Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Unique Reference Number from the UK Border Agency. This request must state the appropriate Designated Competent Body to endorse the applicant.

· There are limited places available under this visa category, with 500 places released on both 6 April and 1 October each year. The UK Border Agency will provide you with a Unique Reference Number if there are places available within the limit for the selected Designated Competent Body.

· The applicant then makes an application to the UK Border Agency, providing the Unique Reference Number and supporting documents. Note also that the application must be submitted to the UK Border Agency Visa Services, not directly to a Designated Competent Body. The application must be made not more than 10 working days after the date when the unique reference number was issued. Public or National holidays in the country of residence do not count towards the 10-day validity period. If you submit your application after this time, the UKBA will refuse it.

· The UK Border Agency will send the relevant documentation to your chosen Designated Competent Body who will advise the UK Border Agency whether you meet their endorsement criteria.

· The UK Border Agency will then consider the application, taking into account whether the Designated Competent Body has endorsed you, make the decision and notify you of the result.

Exceptional Talent Visa applicants are usually required to be of a minimum age, meet English language, accommodation and maintenance (funds) requirements.
