Chapter 1
It was a nice and beautiful day in my hometown of Memphis Tennessee. I enjoyed every single moment of my life as a child. My mom and dad had done everything to make me happy. And as I grew up I have started to mature. But as I got older, I started developing several disorders: anxiety and nervousness. I started to feel very nervous during a regular basis. Whether I talk to anyone or watch TV, I seem to be unable. My name is Lily Elizabeth McCloud and I am currently a high school student. I had been keeping my disorder a secret from my friends and parents in fear that I would be ridiculed. So I did my best to hide my anxiety and nervousness, but to most parts, no avail. My friends always ask me if I’m ok, and I always tell them that I’m fine, secretly hiding my anxiety.
On the first day of school, I am sleeping in the morning until my alarm clock ends my dream. “Lily!” calls my mom, “Time to get up!” She is right, I mustn’t be late for my first day of school because it is rude, especially because it is my senior year. I got out of bed, got dressed, brushed my teeth, washed my face, combed my hair, and then went to the breakfast table. I ate the pancakes, drank my milk, and took a bite out of my apple. Then I walked to the garage to my car. I opened the garage door and went into my car. I insert the key, twisted it, and started the motor. I drove it out of the garage and onto the street. And off to Rose Blossom High School I went. At Rose Blossom High School, everyone are getting their class schedules and talking to each other, especially since they are back from summer vacation. As I walk to the area where they are handing out schedules, a voice called out to me, “Hey Lily!” It’s my two best friends Heather Brooks and Sarah Roberts. “Heather, Sarah,” I said to them as I gave them both hugs. Summer is over and now a new school year is starting. As I walk over to get my schedule, we talked about how our summers went. I was so happy to hear great stories and vacations from my two best friends. “I was traveling.” I told them, “I went to New York, then to Washington DC, and then to Disney World.” I told them. Soon the bell rings, it’s time for 1st period.
My first period is AP Chemistry. My teacher is Mr. Brandon Cartman. No he’s not related to the fat kid Eric Cartman from South Park, he’s just a polite gentlemen who never curses to the class. Everyone in the classroom were chatting to each other until Mr. Cartman walks into the classroom. “Alright class,” he says, “I know you guys are still craving about summer vacation, but as they say, it’s time to adjust to school.” I sat up and looked at my teacher, who is standing in front of the chalkboard. “Now,” he says, “I’ll take roll call, so please say here when I say your name.” As he reads down the roll call sheet. I hear everyone say hear and raise their hands at the same time. “Lily?” reads my name. “Hear.” I responded with a raise of my hand. Later it is brunch time and I am hanging out with Sarah and Heather. We hang out in front of the school library. As I ate some fruit snacks, Heather said, “I really like being the TA for Freshmen Biology, talking to those freshmen was really nice.” “I really like my Contemporary Literature teacher,” says Sarah, “he is really nice and outgoing.” I am busy eating my fruit snacks when they turned to me. “How are your classes going so far?” asks Heather. “My classes are going…” I began. But before I can finish my sentence, the bell rings and it’s time for 4th period.
My 4th period class is AP Statistics, and my teacher is Ms. Katy Rivers. “Alright class,” she says as she walks to the front desk. “My name is Ms. Rivers and I will be teaching AP Statistics.” The class are sitting feeling calm and relaxed. I am the only one who is hiding my nervousness. Later during lunch, I am eating my lunch with my friends. As we chat and ate our food, a red head enters the cafeteria with her friends. She walks in front while her friends follow her from behind like security guards. That red head is Marie Turner, my long-time bully since freshmen year. Usually bullies would eventually bury the hatchet and become friends with the person they tormented, but Turner is just irredeemable. She has been on detention 4 times per school year and keeps repeating her bullying routine. On occasions she had framed me for things I didn’t do and I got in trouble multiple times. Turner and her friends stand in front of everyone sitting down and eating their lunches. Everyone stopped and looked up at her with fear. “Hello losers.” She says with an evil smile. “I am going to inform you guys that I will rule this school soon and you all will be worshiping me.” “Don’t you mean you are going to be like a mistress?” asks one of her friends. “Shut up Lizzie!” snaps Marie. She then sees me and approaches me, shoving a girl in the process. “Why hello there McCloud.” She says. “Oh,” I said, “Hi Turner.” “Alright,” she says, “Since it’s our senior year, I have two rules. Rule one: I’m in charge, whatever I say, you do.” “And rule two?” I said. “Obey rule one,” says Lizzie Stewart, “Or else.” Clenching her fist.
Later that day afterschool, I drove home. When I got home, my mom Donna said “Hi Lily, how was your first day of school?” I told her, “It was good.” And then I went back to my room and threw myself onto my bed. My dog Cindy walks in and jumps onto the bed to cheer me up. I petted her fur. Later I am working on my homework. I am having a hard time keeping my relaxation. Every time I was writing, I was taking constant breaths. I couldn’t catch a break, especially during a normal break time. Later, I lay down on my bed with my face pressing on the mattress. Later after 6:30 PM, my mom called out, “Lily, dinner’s ready.” Later me, my mom, and my dad Peter are having dinner at the dinner table. Cindy is eating the dog food I’ve provided for her. “So Lily.” Says dad, “How was your first day of school.” “It was good.” I said as I am eating my vegetables. “How are your classes?” asks mom. “I think I’m going to like them.” I responded. “That’s good.” Says dad, “Looks like you’re going to enjoy your last year at Rose Blossom.” I smiled and started to finish up the rest of my dinner.
Chapter 2
As the school year progressed, I started to become even more stressed out by schoolwork and mental illness. One day in my AP Chemistry class, Mr. Cartman is changing our seats. We used to sit wherever we want, but now we are assigned to sit according to the seat locations with our names labeled on them. I sat where I am assigned and right next to me is a boy who I never interacted with before. “Hi my name is Nicholas, but I go by Nick.” Says the boy. “Hey Nick.” I said back. “My name is Lily. And it’s nice to meet you too.” We shook hands. “Alright class.” Says Mr. Cartman, “With everyone in their assigned seats, it’s time to start our lab for the day.” Later after the class ends, we all walked out and Nick Foster said, “It was nice working with you.” “Thank you.” I said, “It was nice working with you too.” And then I walked to my next class, PE. After changing into my swim outfit, I went to the swimming pool with the rest of my class who are all getting into the water. I put on my swim cap and stepped into the water gradually. My PE teacher Ms. Briana Campbell. “Alright class, today we are playing water polo.” she says, “You all will be assigned into two teams.” The two teams are the red team and the blue team. And our teams are assigned by the colors of our wristbands that she hands out to us. And I am assigned to the red team. Soon we were playing against the blue team. The ball is getting tossed back and forth with both teams striving to score a point and defending the goal. I tried to cooperate with my team, but had difficulty trying due to my nervousness and anxiety. Soon the ball was heading straight for our goal. “Come on Lily stop him!” cries one of my team members. I held up my hands to block the ball, but missed and the ball scored into the goal net behind me, allowing the blue team to win against the red team by one. Soon it was time for us to start heading back into the locker rooms. “Darn you Lily!” cries a team member of mine. One girl even hits me with her swim cap as we exited the pool. I knew that I couldn’t cooperate well due to my mental health issues. “Alright class enjoy the rest of your days.” Says Ms. Campbell. “And don’t forget that there is a home football game tonight against the Riverville Alligators.”
Later that day during lunch, I sat with my friends in the cafeteria while eating lunch together. “Are you going to cheer on the Bees when they take on the Alligators tonight?” asks Heather. “I’m in!” says Sarah. “Are you Lily?” “Uh maybe.” I said. “What do you mean maybe.” Asks Heather. “I might be busy tonight.” I responded. “What’s wrong?” asks Sarah. “I’m just busy.” I said quickly. “Oh ok.” She said. As we continued to talk, Nick and his friend are sitting on the table right next to our table. He looked back and pointing me out to his friend. I saw it and just looked at my friends and pretended to just interact with them. “On second thought,” I said, “I’m going to cheer on the Bees tonight.” “Right on!” cheers Sarah and she gives me a high five. At that moment, Marie is trying to steal a bottle of orange juice from a girl. “Let go!” yells the girl. “No you let go you twerp!” snaps Marie. “It’s mine!” cries the girl. “You heard her!” I said as I approached the mean red head. “Let go of her orange juice!” I demanded as I grabbed Turner by her shirt. “You know you’ve been asking a lot for it!” says Marie as we fought each other with our arms and fists. It soon got everyone’s attention. “Hey!” yells Nick as he got up. “Leave her alone!” He walks over to stop the fight. “Hey hey what’s this now?!” calls out a voice. It is the principal of the school Mr. Ian Donahue. He gives a stern look at us and folds his arms. Upon seeing this Marie lets go of me. “Since today is Friday I’m going to give you a break.” She tells me, “So why don’t you beat it and get out of here.” Soon the bell rings and everyone started heading to their 6th period classes. “Lily are you alright?” asks Nick as he fixes my shirt and jacket. “Never been better.” I told him, “Thank you for standing up for me.” “No problem.” Says Nick, “You should come support the Bees tonight.” “I definitely will.” I responded. “Thank you Lily for helping me.” Says the girl with the orange juice. Then we all went to our 6th period classes.
Later that evening the cheerleaders are standing on stools cheering as the football players burst through their breakthrough poster. “Go Bees!” cheer the cheerleaders. On the home bleachers are everyone supporting the Bees while the visitor bleacher is full of students from Riverville High School cheering on the Alligators. The Bees win the coin toss, so they start off with the ball. As their running back take a sweep, I made my way onto the home bleacher and went to find my friends. “Hey Lily!” calls out Heather who is sitting next to Sarah. I walked over to them, brushing my way through the people who are sitting down watching the Bees getting tackled by the Alligators. I took my seat next to Heather, who shares her bag of chips with me. I took several from the bag as I watched the game. The Alligator running back runs a huge sweep to the left, but gets tackled. Later the quarterback attempts to toss it, but gets intercepted by a Bee and he runs for the pick six. Everyone on the home bleacher cheers on the pick six. Heather and Sarah cheered too, I cheered as well, but my disorder started catching up to me, causing me to say, “I’ll be right back. I need to get myself a chili-cheese dog.” I then brushed my way through the crowd and out of the bleachers. But I didn’t go to the snack shack for a chili-cheese dog, I went back to my car in the student/visitor parking lot. I drove home and didn’t finish watching the game.
Chapter 3
Later in AP Chemistry, Nick and I are interacting with each other. “So did you enjoy the game on Friday night?” he asked. “Uh yes I did.” I said, trying not to disappoint him. We were soon assigned to work on a lab involving lab coats and safety glasses. I held the test tubes while Nick slowly drop the amount of chemicals into them. “So I was kind of wondering if you would like to hangout with me sometimes.” He says. “Me?” I said. “Hangout with you?” “Yes.” Says Nick. “Why don’t you meet with me sometimes tonight for dinner.” I was baffled by the invitation. I have never went out on a dinner like this before. “Uh sure.” I responded, “Dinner would be great with you tonight.” I then asked where and he said, “Apple Bees.” He tells me to meet him there around 7 PM. And I accept the invitation. Later in PE, Ms. Campbell gave us the exercise routine to climb up the rope and ring the bell that is hanging from the ceiling. Each of my classmates took their turns to climb up the rope and ring the bell on the ceiling. “Lily,” says Ms. Campbell, “You’re up.” I approach the rope and started climbing. I climbed using my hands and tried my best to get to the bell. But my conditions are making this difficult for me. “Come on Lily!” cheers my classmates. I almost reached the bell, but before I can reach it, my hand slip and I fell down from the rope and hit my head on the mat. I wasn’t injured, just dizzy. “Lily are you alright?” asks Ms. Campbell. “I think so.” I responded. Later in my AP Statistics class, Ms. Rivers has assigned us the Chapter 3 quiz on Thursday and in my 6th period English class, Mr. Jerry Smith has assigned us a test on Thursday. “This test will be worth 40 points.” He told us. I am starting to get more nervous than ever. Two tests on one day is hardly ok for me. Later tonight, I told my parents that I have a dinner date with Nick. “Ok.” Says mom. “Just be home before your bedtime.” I later drove to Apple Bees.
Meanwhile in Marie’s house, Marie is with her boyfriend Billy Paul. The two are watching TV and sharing snacks. “You know that I would want to rule the school.” Says Marie. “And you are so pretty in the school.” Says Billy. Marie then puts her arms around him and leans in very close. “Oh Billy I am beautiful.” She tells him that every other girl in the school are ugly. “Especially that shithead Lily.” “Who?” asks Billy. “Lily McCloud,” says Marie, “She thinks that I am the bad guy, but she is the actual villain.” But that’s a total damn lie, the real villain is Marie Turner herself because she is a bully and one of the most hated people in my school. “You know that you are Rose Blossom’s pariah.” Says Billy. This prompts Marie to slap him in the face. Then she pushes him off the couch and grabs his feet to twist it. “No one calls me a pariah!” she yells, “You got that?!” “Ow!” cries Billy, “Ok! Ok! I’m sorry!” This makes Turner let go of his foot. All that reveals her to be not just a bully, but a jerk as well, even to her own boyfriend, who is just as bad as she is. “I am going to be queen of the school!” declares the red head, “And once I gain full control of the school, everyone will bow down to me and give me the respect I deserve!” “And how are you going to do that?” asks Billy. “By the end of the schoolyear, there is an event called Senior Prom. And there will be a voting poll where we can vote for prom king and queen. And once we become king and queen, no one will ever call me a pariah again!” “Ok,” says Billy, “I believe you are going to be queen. And I’ll be your king.”
Meanwhile I arrived at Apple Bees where Nick is already waiting inside. “Hey Lily.” He says as I walk through the main door. “Hi Nick.” I said as we walk to the front cashier to get ourselves a table. We sat near a window and there are menus on the table already. We soon picked our orders. And as we waited for the waitress to get us our food, Nick asked, “So how is senior year going for you?” “So far it’s going good.” I responded, “And I like it.” I am pretending to be well in fear of disappointing Nick if I told him about my struggle with mental illness. So far he doesn’t know about my struggles. “I really like talking to you.” I said to him with a smile. “Thanks.” Says Nick. Soon the waitress came with our orders. A steak for Nick and fish for me. As we ate our dinner, we talked about school life and how it is going for both of them. “I am going to try out for Varsity Boys’ Soccer this winter.” Says Nick. “Cool,” I said, “Hope you make the team.” “I guarantee that I will make the team this winter.” Nick says. He had been playing soccer since freshmen year. “What sports are you going to do?” he asks. “Softball.” I said. I had been playing softball since sophomore year and this is my second and last year on varsity. And needless to say, it is my most favorite sport since 5th grade. As we talked about our favorite sports and ate dinner together, we started to talk more about our classes and upcoming quizzes and tests. I told him that I have two upcoming tests I need to study for. “Wow you really need to study a lot.” Says Nick. As we continued to have more and more conversations we have finished our dinner, but I started to breathe heavily and repeatedly. “Are you ok?” asks Nick. “Yes,” I lied, “I’m fine.” “No you’re not.” Says Nick. “Just pay the check!” I snapped. Nick pays for his meal and then I pay for my meal. As we walked out of Apple Bees. Nick is still concerned for me. “What’s going on with you?” he asks. “I’m fine!” I said as I walked towards my car, “I need to study for my upcoming tests.” “Oh ok,” says Nick, “Good luck.” I looked back and said, “Thank you.” Before driving off for home.
The next day afterschool, instead of going home like usual, I spent time in the library studying for my English test. I read through the textbooks and the required reading books for the test. As I studied, Lizzie walks past me with a glare. I glared back before getting back to reading. After studying for approximately 40 minutes, I got up and headed for the girls’ bathroom. I went inside and to a sink to wash my face to get the anxiety inside of me out. Then I stared at myself in the mirror and gave a paranoid stare at my reflection. I then head back to the library and started looking for a book I like, hoping that reading it will get my mind off my illness. As I looked across the shelf, the library assistant came to me. “Is there anything you’re looking for?” she asks. “Uh yes.” I said. I told her that I am looking for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. “Ok,” she says, “Let me see.” She goes down the aisle to look for it. And she gets the one that I was looking for. “Right here.” She says as she hands it to me. “Thanks.” I said. “You’re welcome.” Says the library assistant. I then packed my stuff, checked out my book, and headed home.
Chapter 4
The next day during PE class, we were told to run a mile around the baseball field. We all ran, but I started to tire out quickly. “Come on McCloud!” calls Ms. Campbell. “Keep running!” I started to keep on running, but I started slowing down. Two boys who are twins started to help me. “Come on!” says one. “You can do it!” says the other. I started to keep running, and soon I started to get cramps on my body. But I kept running until I finished the mile run. I was so tired I went to a trash can to puke. Later during lunch I was with my friends in the lunch-line. As we chatted, Nick and his friend comes in. “Hey Lily.” Says Nick. “Oh,” I said, “Hi Nick.” He then introduces his best friend to me. “This is my friend Bob.” He says. “Nice to meet you.” Says Bob Russell. He shakes my hand and my friends introduce themselves to Nick and Bob. They then invited us to have lunch together. So we sat at a table together with Nick and Bob sitting on one side and me, Heather, and Sarah sitting on the other side. As we ate our lunch, we chatted. We talked about our favorite movies, any upcoming school events, and other fun topics to talk about. “Lily,” says Sarah, “are you excited for softball this year?” “Yes,” I said while faking my smile, “I am super excited for my most favorite sport.” “That’s nice!” says Heather, “We are having our field hockey senior night this Friday.” Brooks had been playing Field Hockey since she was a freshman and now she is getting her recognition at senior night. And I hope that I will be given some good recognition at softball senior night. “How are your test preparations going?” asks Nick to me. “Uh so far they’re going good.” I responded. “Looks like you are going to do well this year as a senior.” Says Bob. Unknown to us, Marie and Lizzie are secretly watching and listening to our conversation with smirks. Soon the bell rings and it’s time for 6th period. Nick then tells us that we should all do a selfie. He takes out his phone and holds it up and we get in for a selfie.
Later afterschool, I spent time in the library again to study for both AP statistics and English. The quiz and test are both tomorrow, on the same day. And I hope that I can do well on both of them. As I studied, I started to get even more irritated and uncomfortable. I started looking around the library and my nervousness is boiling over. This caused me to continuously flip the pages of my book and only read a section like only 1–2 minutes. Later tonight after dinner, I spent time in my room preparing for both quiz and test. I took a drink of water from my cup and kept studying with the best condition I have. But my mental state gave me trouble trying to focus. And I started experiencing anguish and paranoia, this causes me to take a total of five breaks, which eventually eclipsed my studying. I just couldn’t catch a single break for myself as I am feeling mentally disturbed. “Lily?” calls mom, “Are you alright?” “Yes mom I’m alright!” I lied. But I am not alright, far from it. I am struggling with mental illness. Nobody knows, but I do, and I have not told them. I started to get more and more irritated and more frustrated as well. I continuously slam my head down on my Statistics textbook. But still I continued to study, but not peacefully. Soon I calmed down and took several breaths, but I still looked irritated. The next day in AP Statistics, I am taking the chapter 3 quiz. Most of the problems are normal and hard, but I am trying my very best. After finishing it, I took a deep breath and sighed with relief.
Later in my English class, I took my test, I did my best on it, despite my conditions. And after I finished, I handed it to Mr. Smith. Afterschool, I walked back home. “Hey Lily.” Says mom, “How were your Stats quiz and English test?” “They were good.” I said. I didn’t want to tell my parents about my mental disorder because they know that I am always a good, happy, outgoing person. I went to my room and sat at my desk. After petting Cindy several times, I stared up at the ceiling. Later during dinner, my dad asked, “So Lily, how was your Stats quiz?” “It was ok I guess.” I responded while eating my meat loaf. “Most of the problems were normal and some were hard for me. But I managed.” “Oh,” says dad, “And how was your English test?” “I was good.” I said with a sigh, “It was kind of hard, but easy for some of the parts.” “Oh,” says dad, “If there’s anything you need help, feel free to talk to us.” “Right,” agrees my mom, “especially because this is your last year at high school, you really need to do well in your classes in order to get your high school diploma.” I knew that what mom said was right, I need to do good in my classes this year in order to graduate and go off to college, which is one of my biggest goals for this year.
The next day, which is a Friday, I was talking to my friends in the cafeteria during lunch. Sarah asked “How were your Stats quiz and English test?” I told her that they were good and faking every positive attitudes I have. “Lily you’ve been acting kind of strange lately.” Says Heather, “Is everything alright with you?” Before I can say a thing, Principal Donahue starts to talk on the speakers. “Attention students, this is Principal Donahue with a quick announcement: today afterschool there will be free ice cream in the main quad. So if you are feeling warm and hot, feel free to cool yourselves down with ice cream. It’s free!” Later afterschool, many students are lining up in front of an ice cream truck that has been parked in the middle of the main quad. I stood in line with my two best friends. “The senior ceremony for field hockey starts before our game.” Says Heather. “Cool,” says Sarah. “I’ll be there to cheer on you.” Soon we reached the front of the truck. Two guys are handing out the ice cream. “What flavor do you girls want?” asks the guy in the front. “Chocolate.” Says Sarah, “I like strawberry.” Says Heather. “Vanilla please.” I said. “We got one chocolate, one strawberry, and one vanilla.” The guy said to his partner. The other guy soon comes with our chosen flavors on cones. Sarah gets chocolate, Heather gets strawberry, and I get vanilla. After finishing my ice cream cone, I went home.
Later that night, at the field hockey senior ceremony, all the field hockey seniors are getting their recognitions. Each of them went with their family members through the tunnel of field hockey sticks held up in the air by all the non-seniors. Soon Heather Brooks goes through the tunnel with her parents and her younger brother. “Yeah Heather!” cheers Sarah as she holds up a poster that reads “Brooks you rock!!!!” with a rock on it. Heather is holding a bundle of flowers as well as wearing some silver tinsels around her neck. After the senior ceremony, the field hockey Bees start to play against the South Shore High School Sharks. Meanwhile Marie and Billy are hanging out at a nightclub that is downtown in Memphis. They are having fun drinking soda, playing pool, and dancing. “You look fabulous tonight.” Says Billy as he leans in close to his girlfriend. “And you are so handsome.” Says Marie as he touches his cheeks. The two start making out. As they smooched, Billy takes his cup of Sprite and dumps it on Marie’s face. This causes Marie to snap. “You idiot!” she cries. “Oh I’m sorry,” laughs her boyfriend. “Why did you do that?!” she snaps. “Because you’re stupid.” Says Billy. The toxic couple started bickering. “What on Earth is going on here?” asks the barkeeper who enters the scene. “Oh,” says Billy, “I guess I started it.” Then he turns to his girlfriend and says while smiling, “I’m sorry Marie, can you ever forgive me?” The redhead responds with, “Uh did you snap your cap?” The toxic couple started embracing each other again and started spending time smooching.
Later on a Saturday night, I spent time in my room. My dad comes in and talks to me. “Hey Lily,” he says, “I believe that you are a big girl now right?” “Yes,” I responded. “That’s good.” Says dad, “You are going to succeed this year because you have the potential to succeed through high school.” I have succeeded my freshmen, sophomore, and junior years. And now I am going to succeed senior year. “If you need any help feel free to ask me or your mother.” Says dad before leaving my room. After he left, I went over to close my room door. Now it’s the perfect time to let out my emotions on how I really felt about my quiz and test. I went from 0 to 100. I’m starting to have a meltdown. So I went over to my bookshelf and started throwing books everywhere. Then I knock down my drawers, went to my closet to throw my clothes everywhere, and grab picture by picture off my wall and throw them at random directions, with one hitting my mirror, cracking it. After my freakout, I coldly stared at myself in the reflection of the broken mirror while taking breaths. But my emotion went from anger to paranoid. I still stared at the broken glass reflecting my face. I am still living in fear. My room is a mess, and so is myself.
Chapter 5
After the weekends came Monday, and like every school day, I drive to school. I didn’t get a good sleep last night, so my conditions are not good today. I was so irritated that I didn’t see the red light telling me to stop and I ran it. Beep! Goes the upcoming vehicle. I was lucky I missed hitting it, but then a police car started following me. It sounded its siren and flashed its lights, signaling me to pull over. The police officer comes over to my window and talks to me. I told him that I wasn’t being careful and after a conversation with him he says, “May I please see your license?” I handed him my driver’s license. And later I got a driving ticket for running a red left turn light. “Since this is your first time,” says the officer, “I recommend you take the online traffic school.” I agree to it. I am so upset with myself, and to make matters worse, I was late for my 1st period class. “What happened Lily?” asks Nick. “I got a ticket for running a red traffic light.” I told him. “Alright class,” says Mr. Cartman, “It’s time for our lab.” I wasn’t in the mood for the lab, but I had no choice but to cooperate with the class. “Mr. Cartman.” Says Nick, “Lily is not having a good day so far.” “Oh no,” says my AP Chemistry teacher, “What happened?” I told him what happened. “Oh I’m sorry to hear that.” Says Mr. Cartman. “I hope you’ll drive better next time.” “Thank you.” I said with a fake smile. Later in my AP Stats class, Ms. Rivers hands back our Chapter 3 quizzes. Most of the students got As and Bs, and only a few got Cs. When I got my quiz results, my feelings are justified. I got a D, and that grade is not acceptable. As if getting a driving ticket on the way to school wasn’t bad enough, getting a bad grade on a quiz just worsens it even more.
Later during lunch I sat alone in the cafeteria with my lunch. I took out my driving ticket and Chapter 3 Stats quiz results and started being more and more angry with myself. “What am I going to do?” I mumbled to myself, “What are mom and dad going to say when they see these?” “Hey McCloud,” says Lizzie as she and Marie are standing in front of me. “What you got there?” I quickly hid my ticket and quiz into my backpack. “You’ve been holding out on us.” Says Lizzie. I tried to get up and walk away, but Marie grabs me by the arm. “What have you got to say for yourself McCloud?” she demands. “Uh just this.” I said as I reach for my lunch. “FOOD FIGHT!” I grab my tray and threw my lunch at the two mean girls. Marie and Lizzie wipe off the peas and mashed potatoes from their faces and quickly went after me. They grab some pizza from other peoples’ lunches and try throwing them at me. But I quickly ducked and the pizzas hit the other students eating their lunches. This causes an epic food fight in the cafeteria with everyone throwing food at each other. I was the only one not throwing anymore food. As I ducked and tried to walk out of the cafeteria, Lizzie runs over to tackle me, but I ducked and she ends up landing in someone else’s lunch, splatting spaghetti on his face. This causes him to scream and throw the spaghetti at Lizzie, but Lizzie ducks and it hits Marie in the face. I worked my way slowly to the exit of the cafeteria while dodging flying sandwiches, pizzas, mashed potatoes, and hamburgers at the same time. I even hid behind some students holding up trays to shield themselves from the food flying at them. Marie grabs me and says, “You’ve been asking for this and now you are going to get it.” She was about to assault me, but Sarah throws a mop at her, landing her in the trash can. “Thank you Sarah.” I said as I ran for the exit, but there stands the principal. “What have you got to say for yourself McCloud?” he asks while folding his arms. “Uh Bon Appetite?” I responded. Food were everywhere, drinks were spilled, everyone are a mess, and the cafeteria ended up looking like a war-zone.
I was given a detention slip and Marie and Lizzie didn’t even get into trouble. Later in my 6th period class, Mr. Smith is handing out our test results. I crossed my fingers in hopes that I did good. But I got a D+, it is better than my Stats quiz results, but still a bad grade. A driving ticket, a D, a detention slip, and a D+ are enough to make one bad day for me. Later afterschool, Nick is at Boys’ Soccer practice. He is following the drills and cooperating with the other varsity boys. Meanwhile I am on detention. I am cleaning up the cafeteria of all the splatter food. Marie and Lizzie are watching me mop the floor and are smirking. “She’s so stupid.” Says Lizzie. “I know,” laughs Marie, “I bet she can’t even tie her own shoe laces.” The two girls walk away while laughing at my misery. I am so mad at them for getting me into trouble. Later Heather walks in to talk to me. “I’m sorry for what happened to you.” She says while comforting me. “I didn’t do anything wrong.” I said as I wipe the tables with a rag. “It were those scumbags Lizzie and Marie.” “I understand.” Says Heather. “And I agree with you. They should get into detention and not you.” “That’s not the only bad thing to happen to me today.” I said as I reached into my backpack to take out the quiz and test results. “I failed both my Stats quiz and English test.” I showed them to Heather. “Oh I’m sorry.” She says, “I hope you’ll do better next time.” “Thank you,” I said. “You’re welcome.” Heather responded. And she left the cafeteria. Later I continued to clean up the cafeteria.
Later I came home after detention, my mom was worried. “Where were you?” she asked. “I was on detention for starting a food fight.” I said to her. I then took out my driving ticket, my detention slip, and my quiz and test results. “What happened?” she asked. I told her that I couldn’t focus and that my studying times wore thin. “Looks like I’m going to talk to your dad so we can figure out a plan to help you get through this year.” She says as she takes a look at my driving ticket. “I was told to take the online traffic school.” I said to her. Mom then comes up with a plan for me. “Don’t worry sweetie,” she says, “we’ll help you pass your online traffic school and help you on any other upcoming projects, tests, and quizzes.” “Thanks mom.” I said before going to my room. Later that night after dinner, my mom and dad are talking while I am in my room doing my homework. “I’m very concerned about our daughter.” Says mom as she shows dad my quiz and test results, “She botched up both the Stats quiz and English test.” Dad takes a look at them and then says, “Wow, and I thought that she is very good.” “Me too,” says mom, “And we have to do something about this.” “What are we going to do about this Donna?” asks dad. “We need to hire a tutor for her.” “Yes,” agrees my dad, “That’s definitely a great idea. But where will we find a tutor for her.” “Well Peter,” says mom, “we can ask the school if they’ll provide one for her.”
So the next day, my dad went to have a word with Principal Donahue. “So far things are not going well with my daughter.” Says my dad. “She has gotten two bad grades: a D on Stats and a D+ on English.” “But those aren’t the only problem.” Says the principal, “Your daughter has started an epic food fight yesterday in the cafeteria and she has received a detention for that.” “I know I heard.” Says my dad. “And a detention slip will also affect your daughter’s overall transcript.” Says the principal. “I know.” Says my dad, “And the reason why I am here is because I want to see if there is a tutoring session in this school.” “We do,” says Principal Donahue, “It’s afterschool in the library.” Dad takes a sticky note and writes it down. “Ok,” he says after writing it down. “Thank you and I’ll be sure to tell my daughter that.” And with that, he takes the sticky note, shakes the principal’s hand and walks out of his office and heads off for work. Later that evening, daddy said to me, “Lily there is tutoring afterschool in the library.” “Oh ok.” I said. “You need to seek tutoring.” Says dad, “If you want to succeed your last year at high school.” I agree with him. So the very next day afterschool, I went to seek tutoring in the library. I told my tutor that I need help on my English homework. “Alright we’ll work on your English assessment.” Says the tutor. So he helped me on my English. Later that evening after I got back from tutoring, my mom asked, “So how was it?” “It was good.” I told her. “Nice,” she says, “Looks like you can use this to improve your academics.” I quite agree with that. But I still have my anxiety and nervousness. All these things are getting to me and I don’t know what I can do to stop these things from mentally disturbing me.
Later on Friday night is the senior night home football game. The football seniors are with their parents while holding flowers and wearing golden tinsels. After the ceremony, they have their game against the Golden Leaf High School Squirrels. The Squirrels start off with the ball. They threw a complete pass, but gets tackled shortly. I came to the bleachers where Sarah and Heather are sitting. The Squirrel quarterback makes a sweep on the right. But gets tackled. Later the quarterback attempts to pass, but gets intercepted. The cheerleaders chanted “Go Bees! Buzz! Buzz! Go Bees! Buzz! Buzz!” Everyone on the home bleachers cheered. Later the Bee quarterback makes a sweep to the left side and scores a touchdown just as the buzzer sounded. The Bees have defeated the Squirrels 56–42. The football players all rush to the middle of the field to celebrate their victory, especially the senior players because they won their senior night game.
Chapter 6
Later everyone are leaving, and I am going to my car to drive home. “Hey Lily,” says Bob, who is walking towards his car that is parked right next to my car. “Oh,” I said, “Hi Bob, did you enjoy the game?” “I sure did.” Says Bob, “Did you?” “Uh yes,” I responded. “Tomorrow night the football players are going to have a party at Brock’s house to celebrate the win.” Bob says, “Want to come?” “Sure,” I said, “I’ll be there.” “Alright I’ll see you there tomorrow night.” Says Bob as he gets into his car to drive home. I then got in my car to drive back to my home. The next day which is Saturday, I spent time in my room sitting at my desk. I started to feel more mentally ill and unstable. And soon it took a step further, I started to feel suicidal. My mental health is deteriorating. Tears started to leak out of my eyes and I just couldn’t cope with this. My suicidal thoughts were so strong I went to the drugstore. I walked through the aisle and took a bottle of painkillers. Then I went to the checkout to purchase it.
Later that night, the football party is taking place at senior running back Brock Phillip’s house. Everyone including the football players are hanging out, enjoying some food, and playing some games. Food includes, In N Out Burgers, pizzas, fruit salad, vegetables, chips, cake, and ice cream. Bob and Nick are talking to each other while Sarah and Heather are helping themselves to some food. Soon I arrived. “Lily,” says Heather. In my pocket is the bottle of painkillers. No one knows what my true intentions are. As everyone are having a good time, I chatted with my two best friends. “Hey Lily.” Says Nick as he and Bob are walking towards us. We soon started chatting as a group. “Alright you guys,” says Brock, “Who’s up for some piñata?” Most of the people are interested. Soon a piñata that resembles Stitch from the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch is being hanged from the ceiling. Each person needs to be blindfolded and gets 2 minutes to try to break open it with a plastic baseball bat. Once it breaks, candies will fall out. The first person is being blindfolded and takes several swings. It hit Stitch, but didn’t break it open. After 2 minutes, Brock says, “Alright Ryan, you’re time is up.” Next in line is Nick. Ryan gives the bat and blindfold to Nick. Bob puts the fold around Nick’s eyes. Then Nick walks over to the piñata to give it some batting. “Go Nick.” I cheered. After several swings, Nick hits Stitch with a hard blow. After Nick’s turn came the next person. Person after person after person, the piñata slowly crumbles. And soon some candies started to fall out. As Heather went to hit the piñata, I told Sarah, “I’ll be right back, I need to go to the bathroom.” I then took a water bottle and went to the bathroom.
I closed the bathroom door and looked at myself in the mirror. I am starting to succumb to my suicidal thoughts. Mental illness is a very serious thing, especially for a teenager. But I am close to becoming an adult as my birthday is only a couple of months away. But for me, I feel like I won’t reach adulthood. I started to cry more tears as I look at the painkiller bottle full of painkillers. I have been torn apart and I want to be free of this pain. And I think the only way to be free of it is to end my own life. So I uncap my painkiller bottle and then I uncap the water bottle. I started to gulp a whole bottle of painkillers with water. Meanwhile the senior quarterback Eddy Richardson is blindfolded and takes a huge swing at the crippled Stitch. Whack! One single blow causes the piñata to burst open and the candies to fall out. Everyone started to go after the candies. Soon everyone are enjoying candies. Nick and Bob are talking to each other while Sarah and Heather are chatting with each other. “I love Skittles.” Says Heather. “I like M&Ms more.” Says Sarah. “Where’s Lily?” asks Heather. “She’s in the bathroom.” Says Sarah. “She’s been in there for 5 minutes.” “Why isn’t she coming out right now?” asks Heather. “I don’t know.” Says Sarah, “But I can’t allow her to miss out on the candies since she never got a turn to hit the piñata.” Sarah and Heather both went to the bathroom to check on me. When they open the bathroom door. They gasped in horror. There I am lying on the bathroom floor with a painkiller bottle with some painkillers and a water bottle. “Oh my god!” cries Sarah. “What happened?!” Heather goes over to pick up the painkiller bottle. “She must have overdosed on painkillers!” She says. Soon Nick, Bob and all the other party-goers came to the bathroom to see what that commotion was. “Holy shit!” cries Nick. Bob goes over to feel my hand to see if I still have a pulse, and I still have a pulse. “She’s still alive!” He says. “Call an ambulance!” Brock takes out his cellphone and dials 9–1–1.
Soon I was being rushed to the hospital and the doctors managed to save my life. I am lying on the bed, currently in a coma. Nick, Bob, Sarah, and Heather are sitting right by me. Soon my parents arrived. “Where’s Lily McCloud?!” asks my mom frantically, “Is our daughter going to be ok?!” “Your daughter is alright.” Says the doctor, “She’s currently in a coma right now.” “What happened?” asks my dad. “She overdosed on painkillers.” Says the doctor. “Oh no!” says my mom. “Since when does she started getting addicted to drugs?!” The doctor takes my parents to the room where I am in. I am still asleep. “You must be Lily’s parents.” Says Nick. He introduces himself to them before Bob does the same thing. Soon I started to open my eyes. “What happened?” I asks. “And where am I?” “Lily!” gasps mom, “Thank god you’re safe!” “Mom?” I said. “You overdosed on painkillers.” Says dad. “Dad?” I said. “Why did you do that?” asks Nick. “Because I wanted to commit suicide.” I said. Everyone are shocked to hear that. My suicide attempt has failed. But everyone are grateful that I am still alive.
Chapter 7
After recovering from the overdose, I was being put on 5 months of rehab, which means that I cannot go to nightclubs, watch any PG rated movies or tv shows, nor play any video games. I sat in my room, looking unsure of what to do. I then thought of my parents and my friends and how they’ll feel if I made the fateful decision. So I decided to tell my parents the secret I have kept from them. So I went to the living room where mom and dad are sitting at the couch and talking about me. “Lily?” says dad as I walked into the living room. “Mom, dad.” I said. “There’s something I need to talk to you about.” “Yes?” says mom, “What is it?” “I have been afraid to tell anyone this.” I said, “But now I have decided to tell you this.” I started to shed tears. “I struggle with mental illness.” “I have had this for a long time and I just couldn’t catch a break on a daily basis.” Mom and dad started to listen even more. “It has affected my social skills, my behavior, and my health in general.” I said as I cried. “And now I feel confused, torn apart, and insecure.” After explaining everything I said. “And I want my freedom back. I want to be free of this pain.” Dad and mom started to understand what’s going on with me. “I’m sorry for not telling you this earlier.” I said, “I just didn’t want to disappoint you since you both know I am always happy and outgoing.” “Don’t worry.” Says mom. “We understand you now.” “Thanks for telling us this.” Says dad, “We’re going to help you.” And with that, my parents embraced me for a hug.
Later on another school day, Nick and his 7th period class are attending a Suicide Prevention Assembly in the school auditorium where Principal Donahue is lecturing. “Suicide has been a big issue today and in recent years.” He says. “There are a lot of facts that tie in with this topic.” He explains that mental illness, especially depression, contributes to suicide. “A huge percentage of those who end their own lives are considered to be depressed or struggling with mental illness by the time they made the decision.” He also mentions that addiction, especially with drugs, are also factors to suicidal thoughts. “Drugs are bad for you.” He says, “Don’t ever do drugs at all, not even painkillers.” Nick thought about my painkiller overdose. “Suicide usually affects men more than women.” Says the principal. He explains that suicide usually affects men more disproportionally than women. “According to the world population, most of the percentage of suicide were by men.” He says, “However women can also harbor suicidal depression as well.” He then talks about that suicide attempts happen more often. “Failed attempts happen more than completed suicides.” Says Principal Donahue. Nick knows about this as he is still thinking about the failed attempt I tried on the night of the football party, which ultimately led to my current rehab. He then explains that social support is important for those who are contemplating suicide. “Always remember to be vocal with those you care about.” He says. Nick agrees and sets one of his main goals to help me overcome suicide. He then shows a graph that shows the rate of suicide. He explains that suicide and suicide attempts have been present in the media in recent years and the number continues to grow. “For example,” he says, “the legendary comedic actor Robin Williams took his own life in 2014 because of his depression.” He then states that anyone who are feeling depressed or battling addiction or mental illness needs to seek help or help those who have these problems. Nick knows what he needs to do.
So the next day during lunch, he sat with me to talk to me. “I am very aware of your suicidal depression.” He says. “You need help and I’m going to help you.” I then started to explain my battle with mental illness. After explaining everything, Nick says “I’m sorry to hear that.” “Thank you.” I said. “And I’m sorry for not telling you about this earlier.” “It’s alright.” Says Nick, “But now I’m going to help you overcome this.” “What should I do to overcome it?” I asked. “You need to stay strong and not give up.” Says Nick. He then gives me a hug. Meanwhile my mom is at a doctor’s office scheduling an appointment for me. “I need you to help my daughter find the proper diagnosis.” She says. “No problem,” says the doctor as he turns to his calendar. They soon scheduled an appointment this Saturday for me for a diagnosis of my symptom. Later on Friday, during my 2nd period PE class, Ms. Campbell asked to speak to me in private. “I heard that you have recently overdosed yourself.” She says. “I have.” I said, “It was a failed suicide attempt.” “Oh that’s bad.” Says my PE teacher. “You should always talk to someone whenever you have a problem.” “And I am starting to.” I said. “That’s good.” Says Ms. Campbell. “Here’s my advice: You should go out more often and try hanging out with friends more than sitting alone in the house all the time.” I took that advice into consideration.
Chapter 8
Afterschool, instead of driving home as usual, I drove to the city. Since I am on rehab, I cannot go to any downtown clubs. So I just parked my car in parallel parking, paid for the permit, and then I walked on the sidewalk. I soon came to the entrance of the city’s skyscraper. I looked up at it and thought about what Nick had told me. I need to stay strong and I will overcome it. Mental illness may be hard, but it doesn’t mean I cannot fall down or give up. Because I won’t allow myself to give up. That’s what my family and friends would agree upon. And I compare myself to the skyscraper as it is way high up and it doesn’t fall down. I must rise up like it and not fall down. And after all, I need to stay strong. I started to sing my favorite song by Demi Lovato, “Skyscraper.”
“Skies are crying, I am watching. Catching teardrops in my hands.”
(I walk through the main entrance.)
“Only silence, as it’s ending. Like we never had a chance.”
“Do you have to make me feel like there’s nothing left of me?”(Reminding myself not to give up on life.)
“You can take everything I have. You can break everything I am.”
“Like I’m made of glass. Like I’m made of paper.”
“Go on and try to tear my down. I will be rising from the ground.”
“Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper.”(Looking at a miniature toy of a skyscraper on a table.)
“As the smoke clears, I awaken and untangled you from me.”
“Would it make you, feel better to watch me while I bleed.”(Reminding me of my failed suicide attempt.)
“All my windows still are broken, but I’m standing on my feet.”(Referring to my driving ticket, failed Stats quiz and English test, and detention slip; and I have to learn from these mistakes I made.)
(I started to go up the stairs and work my way to the top.)
“You can take everything I have. You can break everything I am.”
“Like I’m made of glass. Like I’m made of paper.”
(I start to enter an elevator that can take me high up.)
“Go on and try to tear me down. I will be rising from the ground.”
(I press the very top floor button and then the close door button, then the elevator starts to take me up to the top.)
“Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper.”
“Go run, run, run. I’m gonna stay right here, watch you disappear.”
“Yeah-oh, go run, run, run. Yeah it’s a long way down.”
“But I am closer to the clouds up here.”(The elevator reaches the very top, then I stepped out of it.)
“You can take everything I have. You can break everything I am.”
“Like I’m made of glass. Like I’m made of paper, oh-oh.”
(I walk outside to see the view of the city of Memphis and the sky.)
“Go on and try to tear me down. I will be rising from the ground.”
“Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper.”(I look at the sky and see a row of planes spelling out the message: “#StayStrong” in the sky with their contrails.)
(“Like a skyscraper.”)
“Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper.”
(I am at the top of the skyscraper, I have made it all the way.)
“Like a skyscraper.”
I am now determined to stay strong and overcome my disorder. Now all I’ll think to myself is to never give up and place my full goal into succeeding life.
Chapter 9
The next day on Saturday, my parents took me to see the doctor. When it was my turn the doctor came to the lobby and says, “Alright Lily McCloud you’re up.” He was holding his clipboard with paperwork attached to it. We got up from our chairs and followed him through the hallway. We entered his office where he introduced himself as Dr. Eric Sakellar. “So you said that your daughter has some serious mental health issues.” He says. My mom and dad are talking to Dr. Sakellar about my behavior and recent failed suicide attempt. “I just couldn’t catch a break every single day, even during break-time.” I said. Dr. Sakellar is writing down those things along with all the other things on a notebook. “I experience anguish and paranoia every day and I feel so stressed and confused.” I said. The doctor is writing them all down. Later he says, “Alright I’m going to examine your diagnosis.” He gets up and walks over to another room. We were told to wait in his office. Later he came back with some paperwork. “Alright,” he says, “According to the results, you have diagnosed with psychotic disorder.” This is a type of psychotic disorder where I lose touch with reality and experience signs of delusions, hallucination, paranoia, and anguish. “Treatments include therapy and medication.” Says the doctor.
So I was prescribed with some medicine that are not drugs. My parents also signed me up with a therapist. According to the prescription I must take the medicine every other three days. And every weekend, I see my therapist to talk about some strategies to cope with psychosis. “You need to try to stay relaxed as much as possible.” Says Dr. Jennifer Perez, my therapist. “The more you feel agitated, the worse your symptoms will get.” I am starting to take those strategies in hand to help me get through my day. I take my medicine to soothe my anxiety and nervousness while every day, I try to improve my social skills by staying longer with my friends. And during PE class, I try my hardest and I ran all the way during a mile run, didn’t fall off the exercise bars, and I scored a goal during a soccer routine. “Good job McCloud!” cheers Ms. Campbell. Later I went to see the Boys’ soccer senior night ceremony and game. When Nick is walking down the line with his parents and younger sister, I cheered for him and held up the poster I made for him. Nick is wearing tinsels around his neck as well as carrying a bundle of flowers. Later after the senior ceremony the Bees played against the Roosevelt High School Hawks. Foster kicks the ball through the opposing team and it lands in the goal, giving the Bees a 2 point lead. Later towards the end of the game, he scores a shot that gives the Bees the victory with a last minute win. The Bees soccer boys rush to the field to celebrate their win. I got down from the bleachers and waited to present Nick with the poster. Soon I gave Nick the poster and he said, “Thank you Lily,” and he gave me a hug. I soon asked one of the soccer players to take a picture of me and Nick with his poster. “You should support me when I do softball this spring.” I said to my best friend. “I would be happy to do so.” He said.
The next day afterschool, I am at softball tryouts. My coach, Teresa Harrison is giving the instructions and taking roll call as well. Later we were practicing throwing and catching the ball. I threw and catch the ball and so far it’s going smoothly. Despite me still having some mental condition, I still managed to do well on my first day of practice. Later throughout my daily school days, I spent time doing homework. This time I spent more time after school on the days I don’t have softball practice with my tutor to help me do well on my homework. And on the days I do have practice I try my hardest on throwing the ball, batting, and running from base to base. Later in my English class, Mr. Smith says, “You’ll be having a test next Wednesday.” I spent time studying after softball practice and my dad helped me prepare. During softball practice, I started to get better and better as it progresses throughout the week. During tutoring afterschool when I don’t have practice, I spent time with my tutor on preparing for the test. Eventually on the day of the test, I tried my hardest and overall, most of the problems were normal, although some were kind of hard. Later on the last day of practice, I did my hardest and never missed a single catch. I even made it all the way to the home plate. Later Coach Harrison is reading the names of the players who will be playing softball. And I am once again on the team!
The next day, Mr. Smith is handing back our English tests. When he gave me my test results, I was amazed and surprised: I got an A! One of the best moments that ever happened to me this year. I am now making huge progress. Later that day after school I showed my mom my test results and she is more than thrilled. “I knew you can do it!” she said happily. I couldn’t have been happier today, I have finally got a good test grade my senior year. I need to keep this pace going. So later during the weekend, I signed up online for traffic school. Day after day after day, I took different online driving lessons. Later during a softball game afterschool, I batted when it’s my turn and I ran as fast as I could. And I made it to second base. On the days when I don’t have a game, I spent time studying and taking lessons with my tutor and I started to improve more and more. And so far I am getting my completed homework back from my teachers, I had been getting more high grades, moving my overall grades up a lot. Later as I walked out of my Stats class, Ms. Rivers walks out and says, “Good job Lily, keep it up.” I felt proud of myself. Later I took the final exam for traffic school and I passed it with 86/100. I am feeling so pleased with that ticket going off my record. During the weekend, I took Cindy out for a walk as part of my therapy strategy. Every other three days, I took the medicine and each day, my anxiety is decreasing. I am starting to get more and more good homework grades from my classes. Mom and dad are both proud of my progress.
Chapter 10
Later during lunch, Nick and Bob are sitting together in the cafeteria eating lunch and talking to each other. “Lily is so far taking therapy.” Nick says to Bob. “She is currently on the verge of overcoming this disorder.” “Nice.” Says Bob. “I am glad that she is doing good so far.” Nick then sees and looks at me as I walk with my friends through the cafeteria. “Can I ask you a question?” asks Bob, “Do you like her?” “Uh yes,” says Nick, “as a friend.” He smiles, hiding his true feelings. Meanwhile, I am with my friends at a table chatting and eating lunch. “I heard you are doing good so far.” Says Heather. “How are your medications going?” “So far they’re helping me very well.” I said. “Therapy is also helping me overcome psychosis.” “That’s good Lily.” Says Sarah. “Are you excited for your first game for softball?” “I sure am.” I said with excitement in myself. Soon after the bell rings and I head off for my 6th period class. Nick walks by and says, “Hey Lily, I’ll show up today after school for your first softball game.” He then heads off for his 6th period class. I looked at Nick as he walked to his next class.
Later afterschool my first softball game is taking place. We are playing against the Bridgetfield High School Panthers. We won the coin toss, so we get to bat first. First up to bat is Jessica Henderson. The Panther pitcher throws the ball underhand. And Jessica hits it, but a catcher catches it. Out! Soon the next batter goes to bat. She hits the ball, and it bounces on the ground. She made it to the second base. I was getting confident that we’ll score some points in this inning. Soon I can to bat, I swung but missed the ball. Strike one! I then waited for the next pitch. This time I hit the ball and it flew up through the air. But it was caught in the glove of a Panther. I am out. I walked off the field. On the bleachers sits Marie and Lizzie. “Man what a loser.” Marie says to Lizzie. Soon the Bees were struck out and it’s time to change sides. The Panthers came to bat. The pitcher throws the ball underhand and the batter hits the ball. It flies in the air and bounces on the field. A Bee goes over to grab the ball and then throws it to the second base, but the Panther is safe. Soon the next batter comes to bat. She strikes a home run with two scores ahead of us. The next batter hits the ball to the field. I ran over to grab it and throw it to the second base. I managed to get one out on the Panthers, but they managed to score again. Later it was our turn to bat. The first Bee batter swung her bat and sent the ball flying. She made it to first place before the ball landed in the gloves of the baser. Nick and Bob are sitting on the bleachers watching the game. “I hope Lily will hit it big.” Says Nick. I am next to bat and I managed to make it to second base and the previous batter managed to make it to home. Nick and Bob applauded for me. “You go girl.” Cheers my best friend. I just looked at him. Soon the next batter goes up to bat. She hits the ball, but it lands in the glove of a Panther fielder. We got our first out on this inning. The next batter hits the ball, and I managed to make it home and score another point for the Bees. However the Panther outfielder throws the ball to the second base, and that batter is out. I am starting to get worried. Marie and Lizzie are watching with smirks while Nick and Bob are supporting Lily. “Come on Bees,” says Bob, “you can do it.” After another out, the Panther came to bat again. The first batter hits the ball all the way to the outer field. The fielder rushes over to grab the ball. She throws it to second base, but the Panther batter is safe. The next batter hits the ball and it flies into the glove of the second base catcher, marking their first out for this inning. The next batter hits the ball and it flies up into the air and lands in the outer field. I ran to grab the ball, then I threw it to the home base. But the running Panther made it home, scoring another point for the opposing team. The next batter hits the ball and it flies to the outer field. As I ran over to grab the ball, Marie goes over to throw a banana peel at my direction, then quickly runs back to Lizzie. I ran for the ball and I slipped on the peel. I quickly recovered and threw the ball to the second base who then threw it to home base. But not before three scores by the Panthers. And that’s the game with the Panthers beating us 15–10. I am so disappointed and unhappy with our defeat. Marie walked away with Lizzie cackling. “Those Bees can might as well just fall down with a splat.” She says. “Yeah,” agrees Lizzie, “Pathetic losers they sure are.”
Later that evening, I expressed our defeat to my parents. “I just don’t know what to describe this game as.” I said. “I understand that you’re upset.” Says mom, “But when you lose, you should learn from your mistakes and make sure you can do better next time.” I knew that what mom said was right. So every day I studied my hardest for quizzes and tests as well as getting help for my homework assignments. And on those days where we have no game, I attend practice afterschool. Each day I keep getting better and better and we started to win more games as it progressed. I am starting to get more and more confident with myself. During the weekends, I occasionally meet with Dr. Perez for checkup on therapy. And I am starting to improve myself even more. My dad and mom are supporting me this whole time. They both watch one of my home games. We won it and they became more proud of me than ever. “Good job Lily.” Says mom as she and dad gave me a hug for our victory. “You are a really-skilled girl.” Compliments dad. I am so happy and proud of myself and even flexed my muscle.
Chapter 11
Later the following weekend, Nick came to my house to hang out with me. “So how are you doing so far?” he asks. “So far I’m making big progress.” I said. “I’m so happy to hear that.” Says Nick as he pets Cindy. “You are doing very good in softball.” “Thank you.” I said. Later we took Cindy out for a walk in the park. As we walked, we talked about our personal struggles. “My dad went to serve in the military.” Says Nick. “And he was killed in war.” “Oh I’m sorry to hear this.” I said with sympathy. “It was such a traumatic event for me.” “So you suffer from PTSD.” I said. “Yes.” Responds Nick. “I am still haunted by that event even today.” “So what treatments are you getting?” I asked. “Same type of treatments as you are taking.” He says. “Therapy and medication.” Now I am not alone, as I learn of my best friend’s struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by the death of his father. We took Cindy to the park and sat at a bench. I put a hand on his hand to comfort him on his loss. “You’re never alone.” I told him, “Whenever you have friends you are never alone.” “Thank you.” Says Nick. “I guess we have a lot in common.” We took turns petting Cindy while talking about our mental illnesses. And it seems that I am starting to express feelings towards Nick.
Later on another school day, I am in my English class and cooperating with my group on an assignment. I got involved with the group even more. And after class, Mr. Smith said, “You did good again today. Keep up the good work McCloud.” Later after school, I am walking to the student parking lot with Heather and Sarah. As we had our conversation we walk past a poster that reads “Senior Prom: A Perfect Dance.” Sarah looks at it and is immediately fascinated. “Wow!” she says, “This will be a blast!” “Yeah!” agrees Heather, “I am going to have a date.” “Me too.” Says Sarah. “Senior Prom would be nice.” I said. “If only I have someone to go with.” “Don’t worry,” says Heather. “I’m sure there is someone who would love to go with you.” “I suppose so.” I said as I walk to the parking lot. Later that evening during dinner, my mom asks, “So how was school today?” “It was good.” I said as I am cutting my steak, “Just wondering who I should go to Senior Prom with.” “That sounds nice.” Says dad, “I believe that you will get a date for Prom.” He is thinking about Nick who had been my best friend this whole senior year. The next day in PE class Ms. Campbell is taking role call as we sat on the football bleachers. After roll call, she started to talk to us. “You all have two events coming up: Senior Prom and Graduation. I hope that you all are currently looking for dates and feeling happy and excited.” I don’t have a date currently, but I hope I am find someone who is perfect for me. Later Ms. Campbell told us that we are playing capture the flag. During the game I am on the yellow team and the opposite team is the green team. The green team rush over to our side to steal the flag, I managed to pull a green flag from one of their players. Later one of my team members rush over to steal the flag from their side. But he got his yellow flag pulled before he can make it to the flag. Later a green team member rushed to our side, grabbed the flag, and made it back to their side, scoring 1–0. Later one of my team members rushed over to their side, but she got her flag pulled. However another one of my team members managed to get past them and was able to grab the flag. Then she ran all the way back to our side without getting his flag pulled, scoring 1–1. One girl from the green team runs to our side while one guy from my team runs to their side. As I pull the green team girl’s flag, the guy runs to grab the flag and runs back to our side, but he gets his flag pulled before he can make it back. After a couple of flag pulls and runs, we scored 4–4. I ran to the other side to grab the flag. I missed two players and I made it to their flag. I grabbed it and started to run back to my side, running and spin-moving through the green team members. I made it back to the other side and the final score is 4–5. We won! Everyone on my team cheered. “Good job Lily!” says one of them. I am feeling very proud of myself.
Later afterschool, I drove home. When I entered the house, there is a rose in a pot on the table with a little note on it. I took the note and read it. Dear Lily, would you go to Senior Prom with me? Sincerely Nick I then drove to Nick’s house. I knocked on his door. His mom answers it. “Is Nick there?” I asked. “Yes.” Says Mrs. Foster, “Nick someone’s at the door.” Nick comes to the door. “Hi Nick.” I said, “I will be happy to go to Senior Prom with you!” “Thank you.” He said excitedly. He then gives me a hug. Later I happily drove home to tell my parents the wonderful news. “Mom!” I said as I entered the house. “I have a date for prom!” “That’s wonderful!” says mom, “You definitely deserve to go to this event.” And she’s right. Along with the graduation ceremony, prom is a milestone for me as it is a sendoff for me before graduating from high school and going off to college. Meanwhile Billy and Marie are driving in Billy’s car. They just had fun at a kegger. As they drove on the road, Marie says, “Billy?” “What?” he asks. “Will you go to prom with me?” “Uh yes.” Says Billy. “And my goal of becoming the queen is about to come!” says Marie with a sinister smile.
Chapter 12
The next day at school, I told my two friends that I have a date for Senior Prom. “That’s wonderful!” says Heather. “Good for you!” says Sarah. Nick told Bob that he has a date for Prom. “That’s very good!” says Bob. “You two would make a perfect prom couple.” “I guess.” Says Nick, “I’m going to cheer for her on her senior night softball game.” “That’s nice.” Says Bob, “You should also do a poster for her.” “Lily.” Says Heather, “We’ll show up to your softball senior night to cheer for you.” “Thanks.” I said. “I’m going to make sure that we win against the Eastlane High School Leopards.” Soon the lunchbell rings and everyone including myself started heading off to our 6th period classes. In class I got my results from last week’s quiz. I got a B+, which is not bad, but still good. I am still proud of myself. I am going to do good my senior year. I told my English teacher about my prom date. “That’s nice to hear.” Says Mr. Smith. “I’m going to chaperone at prom.”
Later afterschool we are having our senior night ceremony for softball. I am with my parents who are telling me all the good and positive accomplishments I am achieving. “And despite your mental health struggles you’ve managed to overcome them.” Says mom. “And you managed to not let them sidetrack you.” Says dad. “Thank you mom and dad.” I said as I put my tinsels around my neck. Later Coach Harrison is announcing that the ceremony is starting in 2 minutes. I am carrying my flowers in my hand with both of my parents next to me. All the seniors walked with their parents with tinsels around their necks and holding flowers in their hands one by one by name. Nick, Heather, and Sarah are sitting on the bleachers together. Nick is holding a poster that he made for me. It reads “Lily hit the ball into the Clouds.” “Next up is Lily McCloud.” Announces Coach Harrison. My friends cheered for me as I walk down with my parents while wearing the tinsels around my neck and holding the flowers in my hand. Nick held up the poster and I saw it and smiled. Soon we got our group picture taken and our game commences. The Leopards are first to bat. The pitcher throws the ball and the first batter hits it. The ball flies in the air and lands on the field. I ran over to get it and threw it to second base. But the runner is safe. The next batter hits the ball and it lands in the glove of an outfielder giving the Leopards their first out. The next batter hits the ball and it flies through the field. It misses several fielders, but I ran to grab it. Then I threw it to the third base to get another out from the first runner. The next batter swings and hits the ball to the outer-field. An outfielder grabs the ball and throws it to home base, but the runner made it home before the ball landed in the glove. The next batter hits the ball and it flies in the air. I raised my glove high up and the ball landed in it. And that’s their 3rd out for this inning. And we’re up to bat now. The first batter hits the ball and it misses several fielders who held their gloves high. The ball lands on the field and an outfielder runs over to grab it. She then throws the ball to 2nd base, but the runner is safe. The next batter hits the ball and it goes through the field with two bounces. A Leopard fielder grabs it and throws it to 2nd base, who throws it to 1st base, getting the runner out. But the previous runner is still safe at 3rd base. After a couple of hits, we scored 3–1. I am confident that we are going to win against the Leopards. Soon it’s their turn to bat and our turn for the fields. “If the Bees don’t win this game then we’re hopeless.” Says Heather. “Don’t worry.” Says Sarah, “Lily’s got this.” The first batter hits the ball and it flies in the air. I raised my glove and caught it. My parents and friends cheered for me as I showed off my best talents to them. After their first out on this inning, the next Leopard comes to bat. She hits the ball and it flies over me, it bounces on the ground. An outfielder Bee runs to get it. Then she throws it to 2nd base, but the running Leopard is safe. After a couple of innings, the score is tie 7–7. And we’re currently at bat. After two outs, it’s my turn to bat with one runner currently at 2nd base. The pitcher throws the ball and I swung the bat, but missed. Strike 1! The catcher throws the ball back to the pitcher. I took the bat again and get ready to hit the ball again. But I missed again and fell on the ground. Strike 2! Mom and dad are watching from the bleachers. “Come on girl.” Says mom, “What are you waiting for?” “I’m guessing a fast ball.” Says dad. I knew that if I miss this again, it’ll be a 3rd out for us. So this time I concentrated very hard. The pitcher throws the ball and this time I hit it out into the field. Then I ran as fast as I can. My parents and my friends cheered for me. “Go Lily!” cheers Nick as he held up my poster. The ball flies over a glove and through several outfielders. I took advantage of this by keep on running. Soon a Leopard grabs the ball and throws it to 1st place, but I ran past it before the ball landed in the glove of that baser. I then ran to 2nd base while the previous runner runs for home. The ball is thrown towards home base. But the runner makes it to home before it lands in the glove. And that’s the game with us beating the Leopards 8–7! We all cheered for our senior night victory and so did the people sitting on the bleachers. Mom and dad embraced me with a hug and Nick presented the poster to me. We did a picture together with it. Everyone are happy and thrilled, all except for Marie. “Grrrr No!” she says and walks away furiously.
Later on another normal school day, my teachers are giving me all our final projects and exams we need to study and prepare for finals week. I have an AP Chemistry project, an AP Statistics exam, and an English presentation. Later during lunch I am sitting with my friends like usual. “What college are you going to?” asks Heather. “Washington State University.” I said. “That’s a nice college.” Says Sarah. “I believe you are going to succeed there.” “I definitely will.” I said, “I’ll continue to do my best and overcome my struggles.” “That’s the spirit.” Says Heather. “That means you need to do good on the finals in order to keep your transcript in good shape.” “I know.” I said, “That’s why I am going to prepare for my finals.” So later afterschool, I worked with my tutor to finish up my few last assignments. In the evening I spent time studying with dad as well as getting help on my AP Chem project. Soon along with my English presentation, I am starting to finish it. And after examination from my tutor, everything is all set.
Chapter 13
Later one day after-school, I went to the dress shop to rent my prom dress. When I stepped inside, I looked at all the pretty prom dresses in different colors. After spending time trying to choose which color dress I should wear for prom, I finally found one that best suits me, green. I then took it to the cashier and rented it. After I got back home, I showed my dress to mom and dad. “That looks gorgeous.” Says mom. “You are going to look good on the night of prom.” Says dad. I then took my dress to my room and put it in my closet. I then petted Cindy before going off to study for my AP Stat exam. The next day in my AP Chemistry I presented my project to the class. After the presentation I received a round of applause even from Nick. Mr. Cartman said, “Good one Lily.” Later in my Stats class, I tried my very best on it. I am feeling good as I mark off every answer on my scantron. I am also filling out the entire area of my scratch paper. I even used my calculator to help me on every word problems. Soon after the exam, I handed Ms. Rivers my exam sheet and scantron before leaving with relief. Later in my English class, I presented my ppt presentation. And at the end, people started to raise hands and I answered several questions from them. This only added to how much interesting my presentation is. After school, I am with my two friends. “It has been a great 4 years together at Rose Blossom.” Says Heather. “I am going to miss seeing you when I leave for college this fall.” Says Sarah. “Me too.” I said, “You two have been my best friends and I’ll always keep in touch with you two.” We then came together for a group hug.
Meanwhile Marie has just finished her finals and is walking to the student lot while texting her boyfriend at the same time. She sees me leaving happily in her car. Marie is feeling jealous and glares at her as I drive out of the parking lot. The redhead then gets into her car and drives home. She then gets a call from Billy. After stopping at a redlight, she answers the phone. She tells him of how I am doing so much better than her. “That loser thinks she’s smart and she is excited for prom.” She says. “Don’t worry.” Says Billy on the phone. “We are going to look good tomorrow night.” “We sure are.” Agrees Marie with a sinister grin. “And we are definitely going to win prom royalty.” “What about Lily and Nick?” asks Billy. “Oh they’ll have a night they’ll never forget.” Marie says with a diabolical smile. Just then the car behind her car honks its horn and reminds her that the light is green. Marie quickly hangs up, puts her phone down, and drives.
The next day comes the night of Senior Prom! My parents and my dog are all waiting outside my room. They are all excited to see me in my prom dress. “This is going to be a beauty.” Says my dad. “I know.” Agrees mom, “I can’t wait.” Soon my room door opens and I stepped out wearing my beautiful green prom dress. I look very beautiful and elegant with the color of trees, grass, and the Mental Health Awareness ribbon. Plus, my makeover only adds the finishing touch to the beauty. “I can’t wait to see what Nick will look like in his tuxedo.” Says mom excitedly. “You two are going to look good in green.” Says dad. I am also very excited to see Nick in his tuxedo. We have finished senior year and are looking forward to a fitting sendoff for me and our graduating class. Soon mom is looking out the window and says. “Here he is now.” I am starting to get kind of nervous and excited at the same time. The doorbell rings. “Go answer it girl.” Says dad. And I did. I opened the door and there stands Nick wearing a nice dashy tuxedo. His green vest and bow-tie connects with the color of my green dress. He is also holding the corsage and boutonniere. “You look gorgeous.” He says. “And you look handsome.” I responded. Soon I pinned the boutonniere to his la-pelt and he put the corsage around my wrist. Mom and dad are taking our pictures with their cameras. We even had Cindy be in a couple of them. After that we drove to Rose Blossom High School for prom. “Have fun you two.” Says mom.
Chapter 14
At our high school, everyone are walking in with tuxedos and gowns. They are all feeling excited for a wonderful night. We parked and then Nick took my hand and we walked into the school to the gym where prom is taking place. My excitement is at full throttle as I enter the gym. Heather and Sarah are with their dates. They are astonished to see me in my beautiful gown. “Wow!” gasps Heather. “You look beautiful!” “You two look good in green.” Says Sarah. “Thank you.” I said. Bob then comes over with his date. “Nick! Lily!” he says. “You two look like you’re going to have a wonderful night together.” After talking to each other, we went to the poll to vote for who will win Senior Prom king and queen. The prom-goers are writing down names of the students who should win the royalty onto ballots and slipping them into boxes, one for the king and the other for the queen. “I think I know who should be Prom royalty.” Says Bob as he and his date write down on the ballots, fold them, and put them into the boxes. “I hope that I can win.” Says Heather as she and her date slip the ballots into the boxes. “I think that we can make a good king and queen.” Says Sarah as she smiles at her date. They slip their ballots into the box as well. Me and Nick had also wrote down who we voted for, folded, and slipped the slips into the box as well. Nick then says, “I need to go to the bathroom. I’ll be right back.” I then said. “It’s alright, I’ll wait for you.” Nick then heads to the boys’ bathroom. As I waited for him, someone grabs me. It is Marie! “You think you are much better than me!” she says, “Well not for long!” “Leave her alone!” yells Sarah. “Billy!” says Marie. The redhead’s boyfriend apprehends both Heather and Sarah. Their dates start to scuffle with him. “Leave them alone you bastard!” I cried as Marie is stilling grabbing hold of me and start unleashing insults towards me. Nick soon comes out of the boys’ bathroom and heads back towards me. When he sees the scuffle, he says. “Hey! Take your hands off of her!” “Who’s going to make me?” asks Marie. “We are!” says Bob as he along with his date, Heather, Sarah, their dates, and Nick started confronting the mean girl. “You really think I’m alone?” asks Marie, “Think again!” And with that, Lizzie and Billy started to restrain them. “You are not fit to win the crown you weak, stupid bitch!” Marie says as she continues to torment me. “Give it up loser.” She says, “You’re just a wimp, and everyone knows it.” I then got a grip. “I may be a wimp.” I said, “But you’re absolutely wrong!” I then stood up for myself. “You’re a damn liar Marie! Everyone knows I am smart, strong, and loyal!” I then grab her arms and threw them off of me. “I have friends, I have a family, and I deserve respect. And the only loser around here is you!” Marie is shocked by those words I said out of my mouth. “And do you really want a piece of me? I asked, “Try this!” I took my fist and delivered a knock-out punch at the redhead, sending her slamming into her boyfriend and they both hit the food table and get the icings on the cake, literally. Everyone in the gym had saw what happened and are surprised. “Wow Lily,” says Heather, “That was epic.” They all started to applaud for my act of bravery. “That was total badass.” Says Sarah. I felt proud of myself and flexed my muscle. “Alright Lily,” says Nick, “Let’s hit the dance floor!” I went to dance with my friends and my date.
We all are partying to the loud music and flashing lights. I am enjoying myself with Nick. The rest of my friends are also having fun. I smiled throughout most of the prom. This is definitely a medicine to treat my mental illness. Later Principal Donahue takes the microphone and says, “Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the time to crown our king and queen of Senior Prom: A Perfect Dance.” He reaches into the king’s ballot box without looking. “You’re king is…” He takes a ballot and unfolds it. “Nick Foster.” Everyone cheers for my best friend. Nick hi-fives Bob and goes up to get crowned Prom King. After clapping for Nick, Principal Donahue says, “And you’re queen is…” He looks away as he reaches into the queen’s ballot box. When he unfolds it, he reads, “Lily McCloud.” My friends and the rest of the prom-goers all cheer for me. I gasped and smiles as I walk up to the stage to get crowned Prom Queen. Me and my best friend were crowned Prom Royalty. The photographer came to take our picture. “This is so beautiful.” Says Ms. Campbell to Mr. Cartman. “I know, they’re really having the best time of their senior year.” “And now,” says Principal Donahue, “It’s time to take your partners and slow dance to our prom song.” Nick and I walked off the stage to join the others as the prom song starts to play. “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran plays while I put my arms around Nick’s shoulders and he puts his arms around my waist. As the song plays, we slow danced and smiled at each other. Everyone in the gym are wrapping their arms around each other and slow dancing. As the song progressed I asked, “Are you having fun?” “I am,” responds Nick, “Are you?” “I sure am.” I said. We then started to ballroom dance. And as the song played on, my feelings for Nick started to progress even more. And so did Nick’s feelings towards me. Nick twirl me around and I spun in a circle. He then lifted me up. And finally at the end of the song, we lean in together for a kiss. This was the best moment of my life. I had a really fun time at Prom. I loved being crowned Prom Queen alongside my boyfriend. And now I am ready for graduation.
Chapter 15
Soon came the day of my high school graduation. I am wearing my graduation cap and gown. And I am also a speaker for the ceremony. I am with my friends and all the other graduating seniors. I am giving my friends hugs as we are congratulating each other for coming to this moment we’ve all been waiting for together. “You’ve done very well Lily.” Says Heather. “And I hope you will continue to succeed in college.” Says Sarah. “And you two have also done well.” I said to both of my best friends. “Congrats Lily.” Says Nick. “You are ready to go off to your next chapter in life.” “And so are you.” I said. I then gave him a hug. “We’ve made it!” I said with a smile. Soon we are lining up to walk to the football field. There teachers, families, and friends are all sitting on the bleachers while we are being seated on the chairs on the field. Mom and dad are sitting on the bleachers. “This is the moment I’ve been waiting for a long time.” Says dad. “Our baby is all grown up now and going to college.” Says mom as she smiles tearfully. Later during the graduation, the principal says, “And now I would like to welcome our first graduation speaker, Lily McCloud.” My parents clapped and cheered for me as I walked up to the stage. “Life is a battlefield,” I began, “especially when dealing with school. And we are all determined to win this battle. I have been suffering from mental illness, a common obstacle in our lives, but that does not mean that we should give up.” Ms. Campbell smiles as she watches me saying my speech. “We have to keep on standing and not fall down.” I continued. “And I have attempted suicide earlier this school year. But I was lucky that my friends and family saved my life. And because of them, I was given the courage to stay strong and overcome my mental disorder.” Nick smiled as he watched from one of the graduate seats. “And I was able to overcome psychotic disorder and succeed.” I said, “And that’s what brought us here today. And I definitely will continue to stay strong when I go off to college. And the message my speech is promoting is to stay strong and you will succeed. And that applies especially to you graduates. Thank you.” I then stepped down from the stage while everyone applauded for me, including mom and dad. Later Principal Donahue says, “And now we begin the presentation of the graduates.”
One by one, each graduate of my class walk up and get their diploma after hearing their names being read from the graduates who are reading the names, followed by some cheers from the people on the bleachers. “Nicholas Foster.” Nick walks up the stage while being cheered for and shakes hand and receives his diploma from a staff. After reading through many names, they read, “Lily Elizabeth McCloud.” As I walked up to get my diploma; mom, dad, Ms. Campbell, and all my other friends cheered for me. Soon after all the graduates including myself have gotten our diplomas, Principal Donahue said, “Parents, teachers, families, and friends; it is my pleasure to present to you the class of 2019 graduates of Rose Blossom High School.” We all stand up, took off our caps, and threw them into the air. I threw mine up into the air as well. I did it, I have made it threw high school. And I will still continue my journey through college, because I will stay strong. And after all, I will not be sidetracked.
The End
