Interview, A Nightmare Or A Fairy Tale?

What do you originate from this quote? Why I’m terming interview a game? Believe me or not, It’s is really a game in which the words that you utters and the way in which you utters matters. You’ve only a few minutes to bag the opportunity for which your are playing this game.

Now, what are the rules to play this game and to stand out from the crowd my implementing them? For finding the answers of these questions, we contacted to respected HR Manager, Mr. Zahid Sultan. He’s currently working at Sadiq Gill Pakistan(SGP), a construction company here in Faisalabad.

Our questions was based on two letters of PASSENGER series, Equip and Real. When we just started to ask a question, the maiden tip from Sir Zahid was, “Assume that your interviewer is your younger brother, your voice must be clear, easily understandable and don’t be offensive” and they asked for water to his office boy to relaxed us… :)

Here I wanna start with the answer of our questions one by one.

Their Preference:

The companies prefer a person having some experience related to their field than the fresh one, who have not even an internship experience. So for a fresh graduate, internships could support you in your interview.

Personality:

To quantify it, Mr. Zahid provided us with the marks out of 100. It’s 20 out of 100 for personality. Personality includes your confidence, your relaxation, eye contact, gestures(like TV anchors), your dressing, your speaking style, your way to respond to a particular question etc.

Technical Questions:

To get through this portion of your interview, you must have a strong grip on your final year project and thesis too. You must have knowledge about the soft wares currently under used by different firms. Your internships results must be real and near to practical work. Fundamentals of your major must be on your finger tips. You may asked about the subjects that you have studied in your uni, books names, author names etc.

Here comes the most interesting question for me… :):)

CGPA:

Ahmm… :) Mr. Zahid also quantified it and said 5 to 7% your CGPA matters. Your knowledge about your field matters a lot and you must have a strong grip on that.

Language:

It varies from firm to firm. If your interviewer is asking questions in Urdu, then you should too. If he/she is demanding from you to speak in English then you must have to change your mode accordingly. It’s better to have a strong grip on both in order to go an #Extramile

Extra Curricular Activities:

No one get inspired from this portion of your CV. Their main focus is on your Academics and Experience. CV must be focused on your skills that you posses etc.

Additional Tips:

  • Sharp your observations about the culture and people working out there.
  • 20 to 30% interview matters.
  • CV is more important than your cover letter
  • Show your gratitude
  • Be humble
  • Have a smile on your face

So, to recapitulate, the interview was super awesome, Mr. Zahid Offered us a tea too:), and gave us many additional pieces of advises to grab the opportunity by applying these steps… So a very good luck to all of you out there in your next game in the coming future. Stay blessed!
