Is America (Really) the Greatest Country in the World?

lawrence serewicz:

the countries with the highest ranking for social progress, norway and sweden, both have kings and queens.

somalia, on the other hand, doesn’t.

maybe you see my point, maybe not. let me spell it out for you. the argument “kings bad!!” therefore “we good!!” is childish, prima facie absurd, disproven by a cursory glance at reality.

penseur rodinson:

i stopped reading your comment when you implied that black people aren’t “real” Americans. why should we take any point of view seriously that is premised on illogic?

on a general note:

when you guys call me idiotic, mean, etc, for interpreting facts (let me repeat, facts), what makes you any different from Trump? climate denialists? ignoramuses?

intelligent people discuss facts with reason. our interpretations can differ. but attacking me for discussing them is only really proof of one very troubling thing:

the true birth of fascism is the idea that the greatness of a society or people is beyond question or reproach.

when you fall into this trap, there is zero difference between you and the “other” side.

thanks,
