The Learning Triangle
Learning is the process of gaining new information, skills, values, attitudes, and preferences through the acquisition of additional understanding, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, attitudes, and preferences. Or, to put it another way, learning is the reshaping of resources you inherit or own.
Why, therefore, is there a need to learn and why do individuals thrive on it?
Because learning enriches one’s life and adds value to it. Now, the sort of learning will determine how valuable you become. Academic learning ensures better career opportunities, but social learning enlightens you about other humans, which you may use to your advantage.
Or
One of the reasons we learn things, according to Perell, is because we need to, which he refers to as “survival mode.” The major disadvantage of “survival mode” learning is that it prevents people from reaching their maximum potential. It’s learning for the sake of a certain reason or cause, and if that reason or cause is removed, learning ceases. When I was in college, the only thing I cared about was my grades and academic performance regardless of the fact that whether I learned something new from it or not. Learning something new here refers to getting deep insights into that particular topic and subject I was studying.
The Triangle Of Learning
Consider the learning process to be a triangle with three corners that come together to form the triangle. These three corners are the three most important aspects of every learning process. “Inspiration” is written in the top right corner of the triangle. I put it first since it is the initial step in any type of learning.
The exact definition of inspiration is “the process of being intellectually stimulated to do or feel something, particularly something creative.”
This is referred to as “cue” by James Clear in his classic book “Atomic Habits.” To put it into his words,
The cue causes a craving, which motivates a reaction, which gives a reward, which satisfies the craving, and which eventually becomes connected with the cue. This phenomenon can be applied to developing a habit or mastering a skill.
Learning that is inspirational is distinct from traditional learning. For example, you might learn a new language because someone impressed you with his or her polyglot abilities, or you might learn an instrument because someone who plays that instrument looks cool, and people around you began to like that person. You began writing because someone on the internet inspired you to share your thoughts with the rest of the world. All of the signs encourage you to begin learning.
Motivation — The Second Element Of Learning
Words like “motivation” are frequently misunderstood by us. I frequently hear people say that someone motivated them to do something or that if someone else can do it, why can’t I? To be clear, the expressions presented here are all inspirational rather than motivating. To put it simply, someone encouraged me to start studying a language, and someone inspired me to learn an instrument.
But what actually is motivation?
Motivation is the end result of a process. The essence of learning is motivation. Whether you’re studying a language or an instrument, the end goal will give you “inspiration.” When you begin to develop new sentence structures or play a few chords on the guitar, you will feel a sense of accomplishment that will motivate you to do more.
That’s why I put it in the triangle’s bottom corner. It will lay the groundwork for whatever skill you wish to learn. These two factors, being inspired and then driven, will enhance your learning.
Failure— The Third Element Of Learning
Failure is not the inverse of success; rather, it is a component of success. A crucial component in this triangle will determine the outcome of your hard work and effort. Failure can be classified into several types. Failure to focus, inability to manage, failure to maintain consistency, and so on. We frequently use the term failure to refer to the end result, but it is the total of all of these minor failures and drawbacks. There is a great need to correct these little faults on a regular basis, which demands careful attention. If you are unable to learn a language, you must be deficient in a solid learning technique and content. If you don’t write every day, you’re not paying attention.
You will face delays and eventually give up if you do not manage your time wisely while learning. You will not attain the intended results if you are not consistent. We can see these flaws in our daily lives if we pay attention. Taking care of these little problems will enhance your learning experience. It is a beneficial learning phenomenon.
To generalize this learning recipe, get inspired by the artists who have mastered the skill you want to study. Then start doing it and improve it as time goes on. It will offer you a purpose to keep doing what you’re doing. Finally, point out minor flaws in this process to ensure that your experience is smooth and enjoyable. Repeat the process. Keep rotating the Triangle.
