Discovering Yourself
Most of us live our lives, peacefully, almost never questioning our self being or at least never about our aim or purpose in life. While we do think about seasons, weather, hangout plans, sports and other stuff, rarely do people think what are their talents or what pacifies them. As Paulo Coelho said in The Alchemist, each one of us have their own destiny laid out and its the source of our eternal happiness.
Just to share my experience, I had also gone through such times when I invested my time discovering myself. It happened quite by chance but I was prepared about it. In other words may be it happened because I was curious but could not figure out what to do about it.
To begin with I have been programming since I was about 10. When it was the time to choose career, I opted for Software Engineering. At that time, it was not much renowned field so I became kind of target of mockery. Anyways I sailed quite comfortably and of course successfully. But the problem arose when I was actually on job. I realized nothing new was there for me as most of the scenarios of application development I had already worked upon. At that time, charm in Software Engineering began to fade away leaving me wondering what was the next thing I wanted to conquer now.
It was that curiosity that led me to discover about myself. I never wanted to lead a mediocre life, doing what everyone else was doing. This eventually led to reading about blogs on how to understand your own self. As I invested my time upon it, I realized it was one of the most liberating experience of my life. I realized that though I happen to be introvert I have a number of activities that desperately need my attention. 16personalities and Lifehack became the two sites which I found most useful. I also realized I had a passion for music and so started learning music on guitar, which I have been quite successful at, despite the scarce time I get to do so. It does sound daunting task to do in the beginning but the rewards are worth all the time spent on it. The other thing that helped me in this are my solitary walks. I would just go for a nice walk at midnight thinking and thinking free from any kind of noise or disturbance. What I concluded was that it was that time when brain places and organizes the experiences most perfectly.
Its amazing how such small things can not just make your life more interesting, they also give you time to invest on what you are good at. I believe each of us is always good at something. Where most of the people fail is not to polish it, but to identify it. They lead their entire lives mostly never questioning themselves. I have been most fortunate that I could discover my love for programming during very early age of my life but later on I could make my career more interesting by learning music and referring long drives on weekends.
This quest shall go on till you are no more in this world. But this blog has to end. I hope my experience will allow many others to search for the answers especially ones who think their lives need some change. Until next time, let love surround you !
