Introduction to Nootropics
You’ve surely come across these substances or at least people pimping the fuck out of them because of their nature. Nootropics is a term used, generally, to classify substances that can have a varying range of positive effects on the mind and body while having little to no side effects. These can and are used for many purposes and many known drugs fall into this category already, like caffeine and melatonin which are commonly used by many people.
I’ll first make an overview of the different sections of this class of drugs, then I’ll pitch you my own developed blends in another post.
By far the most interesting category for myself. Researchers have put a lot of time in developing drugs that will boost all facets of your mind, most experts develop their own blends (stacks) that they cycle through once in a while to prevent tolerance issues.
Here’s an example of a basic memory stack, which are based around tweaking acetylcholine interactions since it’s responsible for memory function:
- Acetyl-L-Carnitine is a precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This will increase the levels of acetylcholine in the brain, thus having more available for release.
- Noopept is a combination of two amino acids in one molecule. It’ll actually cause acetylcholine to be released in the brain and greatly increase specifically memory retrieval and slightly alter visual acuity.
- Huperzine A is a naturally occurring alkaloid that will stop enzymes from breaking down the released acetylcholine in the brain, thus making the stack’s effects last for a longer time without a real comedown effect.
Affecting your choline levels will make it easier for you to retrieve and encode memories from/into the brain, but it doesn’t stop there. These effects are also present when asleep, which is incredible for people into lucid dreaming and out of body experiences. Personally, I remember having very vivid dreams the days I supplemented with this stack. Crystal clear visions that can be analyzed during and after the dream state.
Researchers will eventually get around to developing extremely efficient and potent molecules for this receptor kind of like how LSD was discovered for the serotonin receptor. When we will have microgram range cholinergic substances is when we’ll truly see the new age of Brainiacs arrive. Can’t wait to start working on this as a chemist :)
Other worthy examples for cognitive enhancement would be very popular yet often overlooked substances. I’m mainly thinking of B vitamins and dopamine precursors. They will allow you to focus easier, increase processing speed, get in the zone.
Other serotoninergic drugs like DL-Phenylalanine will greatly increase your mood through natural release of serotonin in your brain. I once tried a stack consisting of dopamine precursors, the aforementioned memory stack and DL-Phenylalanine and felt like I was on MDMA without excess stimulation.
Mixing these substances in appropriate ratios will create very good vibes for any type of situation. All the blends I’ve engineered are unique and will be the best at what they do.
These are very popular in everyday life, you could look at those as safer alternatives to other stimulants like amphetamines, caffeine and cocaine. These are typically not stacked together, rather one of these stimulants is added to your daily stack and that spot gets changed every day to avoid tolerance issues.
The first mention is Yohimbine HCl, which is the natural extract from Yohimbe root bark. It is an adrenergic stimulant much like caffeine, although it is not jittery and a bit more potent. The active dose is around 10-30mg. It is used as a pre-workout supplement in 2–5mg doses, but increasing it is definitely a must if you want it to last multiple hours. This can also be insufflated, yeah I’ve tried it and it’s the best delivery method for this drug. This makes me believe that the idea of Snuffer Bullets (see Scarface scene) with certain nootropic blends in them will be the way of the future.
The next stimulant I’ll mention isn’t really made to give you energy, rather to kill drowsiness/promote wakefulness. You’ve probably heard of Modafinil, which is now a prescription drug in the U.S., although its analogs are also considered as better alternatives. See Adrafinil. It will basically make you immune to the feeling of needing sleep for as long as you’re on it. Pilots have been said to use these substances for double days.
Slowly drawing the map, I guess you see where this is going.
Athletes will greatly benefit from this. Since all these drugs are either natural, legal, unscheduled, untraceable, they’ll have the time of their life working around the anti-doping rules present in many sports. Not to mention these blends will be optimized to maintain the best mind body balance and their effects will be customized by discipline. Gamers have been experimenting with nootropics recently.
I consider these to be nootropics as well. They’re smart alternatives to modern western medication. These range from natural extracts to simply analogs of proven effective medication. For example, instead of popping an advil or tylenol to remove headache you can take DL-Phenylalanine and a bit of Agmatime sulfate and you’ll be good to go.
That’s it for the simple intro, keep in mind I’ve developed a list of the best blends for each life situation you might encounter. I hope you learned a bit about these substances, I will do my best to keep you updated on the recent findings and progressions in this field!
