Vacationing at leisure is what we have been doing for generations now. A little thought to when we take holidays, is what that makes us different from the previous generations. To work while it is necessary and enjoy at the time given, summarizes the older workforce. The stress levels were very insignificant and they knew how to time frame each of their activity. A simple thought to what happens to today’s generation with high levels of stress and demanding routine has brought in this trend of breaking the calendar schedule. Taking break amidst work has worked for the youngsters today whose level of pressure is heavy. Planning a vacation in between work provides a way to escape the tight schedules of the careers and calm the soul and body. One of the hottest picking up trends in the recent times, vacationing, causing a temporary halt to work, has indeed made the younger generations more productive and creative in their working environment. No longer does anyone circle the calendar dates, waiting for their big day of freedom.

As we talk about this trend, it is important to see how it has developed and crawled into the lifestyle of hardworking Indian generations. Started with taking work to vacation and stressing over the time, given for enjoyment, youngsters these days take an off during the work. Given this time, they forget the pressure, tend to enjoy and maximize the time to relieve their stress. When observed, the common holiday trips taken by the lads and lasses of today, is to relish the time in exotic getaways especially the beaches. As they vacation in exotic and ideal locations, most of them plan the trip within the boundaries of the country. One such wanderlust working engineer, Ashutosh Bansod tells, “I am from a corporate background and I do take vacations amidst work. It is just a way to relieve the stress I am burdened with, which otherwise doesn’t let me concentrate on work.” Also, he adds, “It doesn’t make me feel guilty, perhaps not taking the holiday would.” What Ashutosh says perfectly summarizes the today’s generation. Vacations don’t make you feel guilty of not working but enhances their mental health to contribute more to their work.

To not just the working population, vacationing often has become a rising behavior amidst the college students too. Taking a break to explore and leaving behind the demanding semesters for a while, has been picked up by a lot. Says Ananya Roy, a design student, “As a design student, constantly drawing inspiration is required. Sometimes it gets too hectic and that’s when taking a vacation helps me.” Now, this has brought in a whole new angle to how our society is shaping up. With the society being more competitive, the level of inputs required has become more demanding, leading to more pressure. Students now opt to travel and relax and perform better when they return. Another perspective of looking at this is brought forth by Bhavana Raghavendra, a creative professional, “Holidays taken during work, makes me observe a lot of things that I otherwise miss out due to stress of work. A relaxed mind opens up to plenty of ideas that can be incorporated when I get back to work.”

Well, hearing to all this, and constant refrain from many people of not having enough vacation time, there is no wrong in opting to do away with a set of self-declared holidays. Indeed, good news, all we have to say now is: Take your vacation days or watch them dissolve into air as time roll by.
