No doubt aloe vera is a great choice for care of yours. It cures many health issues, especially skin issues. But before using this you should know whether it is expired or not. So today I shall tell you how to know if aloe vera gel is expired.

Fresh aloe vera has very limited life, and you need to use that within that limited life. So that you could benefit from its freshness. But when it expires then instead of giving benefit and taking care of your health. It could harm you.

Expired aloe vera could develop harmful bacteria, fungi or other microorganisms that can cause infections or allergic reactions when you apply it to skin.

If it is purchased from the market then definitely it will not be pure. So when it expires then the chemicals which this aloe vera contains could break down the product that can cause irritation or damage to your skin.

1. Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel Expiration Date

If you have purchased aloe vera gel from the market then you need to check its expiration date first, which is listed on the packaging. Most manufacturing companies list the expiry date of the aloe vera on the label of the container. It is usually listed in the format of month and year, like “EXP 06/2026”.

2. Check for changes in texture and smell which makes aloe vera bad

You can implement this way of checking aloe vera whether it is expired or not on the market available products of aloe vera. But if you store fresh aloe vera at your home, you should consider a change in its texture and smell.

  • Texture: When you bring or use fresh aloe vera gel it is smooth and consistent. But when it is expired then it becomes lumpy, watery or slimy. So make sure when you scoop the aloe vera gel out of the container, it should be uniform and without any chunks or lumps.
  • Smell: When you scoop out your planted aloe vera gel at your home. It has a light and natural fragrance. But if it smells bad, sour or odd, it is time to put its container into a basket or dust bin.

3. Check for Changes in Color Due to Which Aloe Vera Goes Expire

When you purchase fresh aloe vera from the market, its color will be light green because the manufacturer of the aloe vera adds some color to look more natural and nice.

When your aloe vera changes its color to brown or dark, then you should know that your aloe vera is going bad and should not be able to be used.

But when you scoop fresh aloe vera which is planted at your home, it looks light golden in color. Fresh aloe vera color should be transparent. But if you see it looks a little bit like clouds or you feel some small black or brown spots, then you should know your aloe vera is going to expire. Now bacteria have grown into it that can affect your skin.

4. Consider Storage Conditions Under Which Aloe Vera Goes Expire

Temperature

If you want to store it at room temperature for short usage, then make sure your room temperature should be between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C).

Avoid it from direct sunlight or increasing temperature. Because this could harm your aloe vera properties that could spoil your product.

Humidity

You should keep in mind that, when you are storing aloe vera, that place should be dry. Because humidity could increase the risk of the growth of bad bacteria which can make your aloe vera bad and you will not be able to use it again.

Air exposure

When you store aloe vera for long term usage then make your container should be air tight and aloe vera is properly sealed in it. Because the oxygen could oxidize aloe vera which could result in loss of its potency.

Cross-contamination

Cross-contamination means transferring bacteria or any other microorganisms from one substance or body to another.

So when you are scooping the aloe vera gel, make sure the scope is neat and clean. And avoid directly touching it with your finger. Because if you touch it with your finger, maybe your fingers could have bad bacteria and could transfer to aloe vera. That could result from expiring aloe vera before its expiry date.
