Sakhalin is Russia’s largest island, the fourth largest in the world. It is located off the east coast of Russia. It is surrounded by the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan. If viewed from a height, the island looks like a fish with its head tilted toward the North Pole. The island of Sakhalin is 950 km long and has a minimum width of 100 km.

The island has a population of about five and a half million. The largest city is Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In addition to the cities of Holmes, Kurylْsk and Oha, there are ports that operate for many years.

Sakhalin was discovered by Russian warrior pirates in the 12th century — the climate is very mild — the sea air is very humid, so there is fog and rain in summer and snow in winter — due to snow. The land does not freeze, so the island is very green. There are also pine and pine trees. The slopes are covered with forests which are found in most parts of the island. In the north, they are in the whole area where spring The melting of ice causes springs to flow and rivers to form. Everywhere there is grass which becomes fodder for cattle. Sakhalin Island is rich in minerals that are not only sufficient for the needs of the region but are also exported to other parts of the country — there is coal, oil, gas, iron, non-ferrous metals and even gold. — Sakhalin also contains mineral water and healthy sludge — power plants run on coal and gas and this power meets the needs of ship repair, paper mills, woodworking mills and other factories. Since the island is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there is also a fish-related industry — a variety of fish, shrimps and crabs are used to make scarce food. The fur is considered very valuable.

The island of Sakhalin and the rest of Russia have a narrow, shallow gulf between the two countries. Because their journey depends on the weather — an underwater tunnel is planned to be built under the narrowest width of the Gulf of Tatar to make the journey to Sakhalin easier throughout the year — this tunnel will be accessible by train To Japan, Korea and Taiwan — the United States is also relatively close.

Some countries have highly appreciated the geographical location of Sakhalin and the usefulness of its nature — they have spent money on the extraction of oil from the seabed there — Indian companies are also working in this regard. Yes, and they are satisfied with the facilities available there. The oil extracted from the sea reaches Khazira through the pipeline and is then loaded on tankers from there. Sakhalin also wants to supply electricity to its neighbours. But power plants will be built that will run on gas from here. Underwater wires will be laid to the Japanese islands of Hokkaido and House. Japan will receive Russian electricity at twice the cost.
