Celtic played a friendly match against Athletic Bilbao at home in Glasgow’s Celtic Park on the 1st.
It was the last game of the pre-season, and Oh Hyun-kyu scored assists to help the team come from behind to win 3–2 in a come-from-behind victory.
Celtic, joined by Yang Hyun-joon and Kwon Hyuk-kyu after Oh Hyun-kyu, started the 2023–2024 Scottish Premiership season by playing the opening game against Ross County on the 5th.
If Oh Hyun-kyu’s injury is prolonged, it will be difficult for the South Korean national soccer team, led by head coach Jürgen Klinsmann, to join the A match in September.
Klinsmann’s team will play a total of two matches locally, starting with their first match against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium in Wales on the 7th of next month.
Oh Hyun-kyu caught Klinsmann’s eyes by showing strong physical fights and ball determination in his Celtic debut season, and he had entered the “striker competition” by playing in all four A matches in March and June.
Oh Hyun-kyu, who played for Suwon Samsung in the K League 1 and moved to Celtic in January, scored seven goals in 20 official games, including six goals in the regular league and one goal in the Scottish Cup in the 2022–2023 season.
