Introduction

Yes, you’ve heard it right. Apple has finally released a much-awaited new version of an old favourite: the iPod Touch after a long overdue two-year gap. However, it might not have caught your attention unless you’ve been thoroughly following Apple’s updates as it isn’t prominently featured on their website. Here’s a guide to the significant changes and updates that make this new iPod Touch a worthy contender.

Updated Specs

The first thing to make a note of is the update in specs. The new iPod Touch now boasts an Apple A8 chip along with one gigabyte of RAM. The refresh was a much-needed move, and the result is a swift and seamless performance that keeps pace with the current iPhone.

Handheld Gaming Console

The iPod Touch excels in gaming with iOS handling one gigabyte of RAM seamlessly. Despite wishes for a larger screen, the gaming experience is so impressive it might reintroduce iPod to the younger generation as their first handheld gaming console.

Showcasing Display & Build

The second major revamp is the display. It features a four-inch retina display with 11 36 by 640 resolution and 326 pixels per inch. However, don’t let the compact screen deter you — it is sufficiently large for watching videos and gaming. Staying faithful to its roots, iPod Touch continues as a media player prizing portability, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s just 6.1 millimeters thin, weighing 88 grams but still solid and resilient — no bending issues to worry about here.

New Additions

Two other new additions in the thin body are a slightly larger battery and a new camera. The new Touch now houses a 1043 milliamp hour battery just a bit bigger than the previous version’s 1030 milliamp hour one. The larger battery, combined with newer software and specs, should lend itself to a longer battery span. Plus, it now comes with a new 8 megapixel camera that aligns well with the iPhone 5’s camera. It’s a protrusion on the back, but it means the quality of photos and videos should be pretty good.

Skipped Features

Despite the new additions, iPod has bypassed adding a touch ID and NFC, so user experiences like Apple Pay, unlocking the phone with a fingerprint, or touching to pay for apps are absent. It has a regular home button, and the wrist strap that was a feature on the back of the last iPod Touch is also missing.

Price and Other Details

The price starts at £200 for the 16 gig, a reasonable deal for the tech enhancements. But, stepping over the 32 gig may land you in iPhone price territory. It also comes in a range of colours now, including silver, gold, space grey, pink, red, and the particularly recommended, blue.

Conclusion

The 2015 iPod Touch is a mystery in terms of its target audience but seems ideal for anyone longing for an iPhone experience without actually owning an iPhone. It’s perfect for those who fancy having treasures of the past blended with the advances of the present.

In today’s tech-savvy world, there’s still room for more affordable options like the iPod. While many have advanced to using iPhones, there are those who may not be ready for that leap just yet — for them, the iPod remains a great alternative. It offers almost all the benefits of an iPhone at a significantly lower cost, including access to the same suite of apps and games favoured by iOS users.
