A parasite called anxiety

Anxiety by definition is *an emotion characterised by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil, often accompanied by nervous behaviour, such as pacing back and forth, somatic complaints, and rumination. *

You have experienced anxiety at least once in your life. When you asked a girl/boy on a date , when you went to a place for the first time , in a job interview. Unless you are not human , then you certainly have that parasite inside you. It can and it will destroy you , If you don’t learn how to control it.

With society being the way it is , everyone has more than one thing on his plate to worry about. Family , work , bills and the list goes on. All those things are the perfect food for your parasite. I call mine Jeffry , so from now on i will refer to anxiety as Jeffry.

Most of the times Jeffry takes control and start messing with you , “where will i find the money to pay the bills?”. For Jeffry that translates to a chocolate cake. The more you worry about something the stronger Jeffry gets and takes control. And i don’t know about you but i prefer to have control of my body and mind.

If you know what feeds Jeffry then you are lucky because you can put Jeffry to a diet. I know it’s not simple but worrying about things will get you nowhere. Start thinking of ways to solve your problem and not the problem itself. In that way , it’s possible you will put Jeffry to sleep.

However with society having you constantly worrying about things , you feed Jeffry without even knowing it. Even the commercials make Jeffry happy. You don’t know what to take , what is the perfect gift for your friend or what console you should buy this Christmas.

How do you fight a parasite when you don’t know what it even eats most of the time?

Personally giving it a name helped me as it made it feel like an actual being that i can fight. Organising my life into small events also helped me since i feel more secure about the future and have something to look into. That way i have one less thing to worry about. Also , when i have a problem i break it to small parts and try to find solutions. With that simple but as far as i am concerned effective technique.

Although there are ways to fight that parasite the problem is , it’s not the only thing you have to fight. Since that parasite is a part of something bigger inside us. But that’s a story for another time.
