Yes! And to go a little further: Whatever culture is currently in place in an organization is being generated by a system that is operating “perfectly” to sustain that culture. Whatever the norms are (insert list of unhealthy corporate dynamics here) they come primarily from the system, not the individuals. Which means if you want a new set of norms it can only come from changing the system, not the people.
It is common to ask about practices or leadership development when talking about cultures, but I don’t think that that gets to the real leverage point. What beliefs, assumptions, and structures are driving the current norms? What beliefs, assumptions, and structures would drive the norms you want? Shift those and you will create a new sustainable culture.
