The day fear vanquished love

Love waves its beautiful butterfly wings in a delicate breeze

Fear is the fist that knocks it off without noticing

Love waits

Fear motivates

I tried to battle the fear in you

I hacked with a blunted sword

At your powerful lack of trust in me

It’s rooted in old hurts

Lovers who cheated

Parents who left

I know you’re haunted and I fought your terror

With caresses so gentle

I willed my soft hands on your cheeks

to penetrate your barricaded heart

But the hydra headed fear inside of you

Was bigger than my kindness

This day, Left love’s gossamer wings

folded in upon themselves

crushed and forgotten on the ground.
