Statement by Jacques Boyer, UNICEF Representative in Cameroon

On 3 September 2018, the school year started for more than five million children in Cameroon, but multiple threats and incidents have prevented many children from going to school in the north-west and south-west regions. schools in these regions have become the scene of violence against students, teachers and administrative staff. these abuses create fear and deprive children from their right to education.

UNICEF condemns these acts of violence, abduction, intimidation and attacks against schools, and emphasizes that schools and their pupils should always be protected. all children in the north-west and south-west regions like any other children across the country must be able to go to school in peace.

UNICEF calls for the protection of the rights of all children.
