A new ideation and incubation lab

We’re proud to announce the launch of Unigram Labs — an ideation and incubation lab committed to leveraging research, science, and technology to contribute to the advancement of society.

There is an incredible amount of innovation taking place in the world: new research, new startup companies, new patents, new academic papers, and much more. It’s impossible to keep track of and stay current with the rapid pace of these new developments. Additionally, it’s very difficult for most of us to allocate the necessary time to research, discover, compare, assess, select, experiment, or prototype with these new technologies. No one person can keep up. Unigram aims to provide the bandwidth and a collaborative space to take on that research and analysis.

Who We Are

Unigram Labs was founded trying to answer the question:

With all the time & money in the world what would you do?

The emphatic answer that emerged was:

  • Learn about great science, research, and technology
  • Contribute to society by advancing those technologies in entrepreneurial ways
  • Bring together like-minded people that can collaborate and contribute their knowledge to those efforts

Unigram Labs is composed of a small core team of Activators — program managers and research analysts — working together with a larger network of Advisors — expert technologists, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

What We Do

Specifically, Unigram conducts several types of projects:

  • Technology Surveys and Landscapes
  • Technology Scouting and Tracking
  • Project Ideation, Feasibility, and Proof-of-Concepts

The projects are often exploratory in nature with the goal of supporting entrepreneurial ventures (for- and not-for-profits, near-term and long-term) and sharing knowledge to catalyze and inspire others.

Typically, Unigram Labs provides one or more Activators and a digital hub to bring Advisors together to collaborate on time-bound projects of interest. Analysis and research outcomes are often published here in this blog.

As an example, this article was part of a project to survey the landscape of Conversational AI.

Areas of Interest

Unigram’s interests broadly fall into three thematic areas:

1] Human and machine learning — the ability to advance society’s capacity to make exponential progress: human learning in terms of ed-tech, brain development, and neuroscience and machine learning in terms of automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

2] Physical infrastructure — delivering a more equitable future and providing greater basic quality of life to Earth’s citizens. This includes transportation and distribution, agro-food technology, energy, materials, construction, and manufacturing.

3] Future of information technology — aiming to address the emerging challenges and opportunities in the very fabric of IT enablement and the evolution of information access and processing. This includes software and computation literacy, software productivity (no-code/low-code), quantum computing, IoT, and more.

Come Join Us!

We have several projects underway and we’re very excited about the road ahead. However, acknowledging that this is an unconventional and ambitious undertaking, we can definitely use the help!
