Kamchatka is a distant, harsh and enticing destination for travellers from all over the world. Why come here and what is there to see?

Avacha volcano is probably the first thing you will see when you arrive in this wonderful region! You can see it from everywhere in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as this active volcano is only 30 kilometres from the city. Because of its proximity to the capital, it is the most frequently visited.

Another place in the capital of Kamchatka, the beauty of which should not be neglected, is Avacha Bay. The main symbol of the bay is the cliffs of Three Brothers.

The Valley of Geysers is the only one in Eurasia and one of the largest geyser fields in the world. This very place can be called the main attraction of Kamchatka. A place that is accessible only to those who went on a helicopter tour. Geysers, hot springs, mud boilers, waterfalls and lakes are an extraordinary place.

If you think that Kamchatka is the edge of the earth and Russia ends here, then you are wrong. Even further to the east, in the middle of severe and cold ocean waves, there is an amazing place — the Commander Islands. Here you will find a forgotten land that will surprise you with its beauty.

You can get here by plane (in 3 hours) or by passenger ship “Vasily Zavoyko” (in good weather it takes 36 hours, and in bad weather you can get stuck in the ocean for several days).

The Dead Forest is a sinister place near Volcano Tolbachik, which is responsible for making the landscape of this place desolate and catching up with fear. In 1975, there was a strong eruption, when heated ash covered the forests around the volcano, destroying once raging vegetation. The smell of sulphur still hangs in the air, but nature is beginning to revive little by little and you can already see mosses and small shoots breaking through somewhere.

Let us not forget that another attraction of Kamchatka is its rich fauna. There is a large number of nerves in the Kuril Lake, which attracts brown bears here. About 200 animals gather here at the end of summer.

Those who want to see bears should consider another option: a trip to Lake Dvugurt. Here is one of the largest spawning grounds in Kamchatka, so there are many bears. On the positive side, it is worth noting that there is a tourist base, so you can stay here for a few days.

The picturesque blue lakes are located in the mountains, at an altitude of about 800 meters. The lakes have shades of blue, green and purple, from which they got their name. They are connected by small streams, and from the last lake flows a small Polovinka river, which emerges from the cliff, forming a waterfall of small but very beautiful waterfalls.

The road to the Blue Lakes is not as easy as we would like. It can only be reached on foot, in both directions by about 30 kilometres, so the trip is organized during the night. There is no parking space, so the tour is completely autonomous.

Kamchatka is the edge of the volcanoes, so there are many sour lakes here. The most famous and beautiful are the craters of the active volcanoes Gorely and Maly Semyachik.
