Thiruvananthapuram! Huh, how do you pronounce it? How many syllables are there? Yet, it is not one of the longest names for a city. At 18 letters, not even close.

It used to be known as Trivandrum as a colonial distortion and was restored to its original name in 1991. The name literally means the city of the lord Anantha. It is located in the southwest part of India in the state of Kerala. It is the capital of the state. The Padmanaswami temple located in the city is the richest pilgrimage center in the world.

I do not want to start with some myths or obscure history that people fixate on cities in India. Cities, different communities, and festivals all have associated myths, their veracity is mixed, and we do not know whether they are true or not. The problem with that is people do not advance their stories beyond those myths. I find that as minimizing to a city.

I do not want to start by listing the most notable tourist attractions in the town either. There is no shortage of any such material in any city on the internet.

I look upon my desire to visit cities based on one main criterion. If I go and stay there for a few days, I want to feel the emotions…
