Personal Accident Cover in Motor Insurance

Personal Accident Cover is the insurance cover provided to the owner of the vehicle in case of an injury caused to them during an accident of the insured vehicle. Though this add-on come at an extra premium and will give you extra cover.


The person is entitled to this cover only when they holds an effective driving license and he/she is the registered owner. Personal Accident cover will not be granted when a vehicle is owned by a company, a firm or a similar corporate or when the owner-driver does not hold an effective driving license. When the owner-driver owns more than one vehicle, Personal Accident cover can be granted for only one vehicle as opted by the registered owner.

Scope of Compensation

The scope of Personal Accident Compensation vary based on the nature of injury to the registered owner. In the case of death, Loss of two limbs or sight of two eyes or one limb and sight of one eye, 100% of the sum assured will be given to the beneficiary. If the nature of injury is limited to loss of one limb or sight of one eye, 50% of the sum assured is given. In the case of Permanent total disablement from injuries which are not included in the above, 100% is given as compensation.

Other Clauses

1. The maximum limit is Rs 200000 for private car and a claimant cannot claim twice (Eg. Once for Loss of limb and other for permanent disablement).

2. Compensation will not be payable in respect of death or bodily injury resulting due to an intentional self injury or attempted suicide or under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

3. The maximum limit is applicable to the insured or any named person or unnamed passenger other than paid driver or cleaner and subject to the scope of compensation mentioned above.

4. The cover is applicable only to a maximum of the number of seating capacity of vehicle
