The Unspoken Smiles Foundation began in Haiti in May of 2014 with the goal of providing oral care and education to underserved communities. In the aftermath of Haiti’s destructive 2010 hurricane, many children were left without access to dental health care services. Unspoken Smiles was created to fill that gap, and its pilot program and Haiti made oral health services and education available of those in need.

Since 2014, the Unspoken Smiles Foundation has expanded into countries such as Kurdistan, Guatemala, Romania, El Salvador, and India. By providing dental supplies, volunteer dentists, and dental hygiene education to communities around the world, the Unspoken Smiles Foundation is working to prevent oral disease in as many places as possible. Oral disease is the target, but the Unspoken Smiles Foundation’s real fight is against disease, lack of access to health care, and systematic poverty.

CGI U Honor Roll 2018

The Unspoken Smiles Foundation’s Founder and CEO, Jean Paul Laurent, received the Clinton Global Initiative’s “Honor Roll” Recognition at the CGI U’s 11th annual meeting at the University of Chicago, held from October 19–21. Unspoken Smiles is currently fundraising so that it able to launch its Fellowship program in January 2019. The Fellowship program will give young women the training to provide oral care and be educators promoting proper oral health care habits to those in their own communities. Unspoken Smiles is committed to healthy populations, and oral health is one piece of that puzzle.
