Local Tattoo Shop Changing the Way People Celebrate Valentines Day This Year

If you are thinking of a Valentine’s gift for your loved one: cards, chocolates, flowers are the usual offerings and for those who are members of the Lonely-Hearts Club, your first thought is probably the pub.

If these common displays of affection no longer hit the mark, a local Southsea tattoo shop is now offering an alternative, more modern way to exhibit love or celebrate single life with a choice of Valentine’s tattoos to commemorate the day.

Instead of settling for the usual tokens of love or moping and getting drunk this year, singles, and local couples have flocked to Southsea Tattoo Co to get their fix this Valentine’s Day weekend.

But before rushing to get Valentines ink, remember, tattoos can’t simply be thrown in the bin or forgotten about the next day.

Owner of Southsea Tattoo Co, Tim Child’s said: ‘My personal opinion on Valentines tattoos is purely based on how long the couple have been together or how solid a relationship is.’

Tim went on to say: ‘Love has always been a main genre within tattoo culture, from the early 1900s when the western culture adopted traditional tattooing through till the present, love hearts, names and roses have all played there part to adorn bodies to symbolise love and sometimes maybe lost love.’

Tim has chosen to depict his love for his wife by tattooing her initials on his ring finger

‘A tattoo shouldn’t be a branding to wear to show ownership, or to say sorry; if it’s for the right reasons I have no issue.’

So when love is in the calendar, why wouldn’t Tim take the opportunity to share love through tattoos, amongst the predictable cards, chocolates and restaurants of Portsmouth.
