The HMS Queen Elizabeth is the 5th boat to bare her name.

The first ship named Queen Elizabeth was the World War 1 HMS Queen Elizabeth battleship. Operated at the Portsmouth Royal Dockyard, it cost just over £3 million and was ultimately scrapped in 1948.

Then came the RMS Queen Elizabeth constructed in the 1930s it offered a weekly luxury liner service and like its namesake also served at war. This time in World War 2. It unfortunately sunk in Hong Kong in 1972.

In 3rd place is the Queen Elizabeth 2. It was a cruise ship for the cunard line until 2008 where it was handed over to its new owners in Dubai, where it is now permanently docked.

Like the previous ship the MS Queen Elizabeth is also a cruise ship operated by the Cunard line. Announced in 2010 and costing approximately £350 million it is the latest ship in the Cunard fleet and the 4th ship to be named after the Queen.

Finally the Royal Navy HMS Queen Elizabeth (RO8) aircraft carrier launched in 2014 is the latest ship named after our current Monarch. It is planned to be in service in 2020 and costs a staggering £3.1 Billion. Considering the first ship called Queen Elizabeth was just over £3 million.
