Men in Portsmouth are earning thousands of pounds more than women every year, gender pay gap report reveals
Although progress has been made, there’s still a long way to go to eradicate the gender pay gap, according to experts.
The report came as part of a study of the gender wage gap across the UK.
The lowest gender pay gap was in Havant, with a £4,903.60 difference.
According to estimates by the ONS, the mean gender wage gap in Southampton was 22.0% and 22.8% in Winchester.
Dr. Emily Yarrow, a lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, said: ‘Many organisations know about their gender pay gap, but are stuck at making effective change.
‘Companies should cultivate organisational culture that ensures men and women are equally rewarded, and provide flexible working options.’
