Celebrate Your Marriage Without A Wedding.

“Grab your partner, take a trip to the mountains and say your vows under the open sky.”

For some couples, a traditional wedding is the most popular way to officiate their marriage, whether a small gathering with their loved ones or a massive wedding with friends and families. But let’s not forget that it’s not always for everyone — some may find that it could be too much hassle to arrange and can’t even afford everything needed for the occasion. Others may be happy with just marrying the person no matter where they choose to celebrate.

To help with making your decision, we’ve come up with a few celebration alternatives that might be ideal if you don’t fancy arranging a traditional wedding.

Elope — Getting Married In Secret

This is one option that is an obvious alternative to the traditional wedding ceremony with all the drama. Take your partner on a trip to the mountains, and say your vows under the open sky. All you’ll need to do is plan your trip, hire a celebrant and get nearby accommodation.

Elopements might have had a bit of a stigma associated with them back in the days, but not anymore. More and more couples in the UK choose to take an intimate and romantic trip, to say their vows, surrounded by the wild and nothing else. You can even put together a little reception for those miffed family members when you come back.

Head to The Registry on A Weekday

It’s inexpensive, quick, and drama-free. Head to your local registry, give a notice of marriage and then get married on a weekday. The marriage notice has to be given many days in advance, so make sure to do that first. You can then get married and have a simple wedding lunch with those closest to you at a restaurant. This is a lovely way to have an intimate event without the expense of a wedding.

Take Your Celebrant to A Restaurant Reservation

Rent out a room in a restaurant, get your closest loved ones together and say your vows. You’ll have to do less planning, and you spend less too. Most celebrants are ready to help you make your celebration personal and memorable. Before you know it, you’ll be done, and the restaurant can serve a hearty meal right after.

How Does an Online Wedding from Your Living Room Sound?

We’ve seen these happen a lot in the past year; nothing says you can’t do the same now. A celebrant is an answer here. They can be there with you in person or can even join you both online as well.

To get started, you’ll need some online wedding streaming equipment. Don’t worry, it’s not some extensive equipment you’ll have to save for months to get. They could be a laptop/good phone and a stable internet connection. Next, you’ll need some décor to the room to make it a bit more special too. Just remember that you don’t have to decorate the whole room. Get the best spot with the perfect lighting and then set up your décor there.

After these, it’s time to start a social media group with your loved ones and then set a time for your event. You can also use platforms like Zoom and Google Hangouts.

Have A Non-Official Reception

This is an idea that you can combine with the registry ceremony mentioned earlier. A non-official reception after this ceremony is a great way to celebrate while cutting out the expensive wedding planning.

Set up a fun group hangout for you and your loved ones after. You could go to a restaurant, go bowling or even go wine tasting. We’ve also seen couples throw a nice backyard cookout or have a paint and sip event. The idea with reception is to be a fun event where your loved ones can celebrate you. Go ahead and plan whatever comes to mind when you think of that.

In conclusion, whatever ideas you choose is up to you. The fact, however, remains that more and more couples are choosing to ditch the traditional big weddings. It’s okay not to want the same old, something new, something blue and big white wedding.

How would you plan your special day? You might consider saying your vows on top of the mountains or just organise a non-official reception. If you have already celebrated your marriage, what did you do? Let us know in the comments below!
