In today’s global economy, the prominent approach to get the skilled work force is to allow them to work remotely.

Adding remote employees present impending challenges to management, that may get overlooked. The need to manage cohesion, improving morale, and maintaining productivity remains vital. However there is much more to make the most of your remote team.

1. Communication

The most vital key to an effective remote team is communication, needless to say its the most important part as there isn’t gonna be the same interaction, assuming fewer than 4–5 meetings with remote employees yearly. You need to find the best way of communicating by experimenting with video conferencing, group chat, or simply emails. Remember to have a quick chat at least bi-weekly to keep workers motivated and engaged upon work.

2. Productivity

People assume a remote team wouldn’t be as productive. with advancement in technologies its much easier to maintain same level of productivity, without the same level of interaction. For working upon a document we now have google drive where it can be edited by different people simultaneously and we have iwork by apple which let you make presentation with your team , with all changes happening simultaneously and in real-time.

3. Working hours

Depending upon your business, you can provide leverage to remote workers upon their suited working hours. Assuming they are in some other time zone, you will need to maintain overlapping time window in which remote workers can share a collaboration window with employees. A communication between team is essential, to maintain you should organize time schedule when everyone is working.

4. Tracking work

You would need to maintain a tighter work schedule to get overall transparency on when will the work be actually completed, since time based contracts are mainstream in our businesses its essential to track work to get it covered within time. If the employees work on hourly basis, it makes a lot more sense to track working time.

5. Create a standard on-boarding

Since learning by watching isn’t possible with remote employees. you must create a training program(videos) that educates remote workers about the basics of company and your way of working, this is essential to gain endurance from the beginning.

6. Creating a team feeling

Its very important to not let left apart feeling cross mind of remote employees, they should be felt as a part of your company as much as the employees working in office. You should take certain measures such as timely gifts, bonuses and rewards to make remote employees feel like they are a vital part of your company.
