Just How Out of Touch Are Trump and the Radical Right? Here’s the List

If anyone is confused about why the country is in an uproar right now (aside from the fact that cheeto Mussolini just took office), consider the difference between what the American people want and what is being forced on us by our government and the radical right:

78% say Citizens United was a bad decision

63% would support raising the minimum wage to $15/hr

75% would support raising it to $12.50

82% support indexing the minimum wage to inflation

62% believe in debt free public college

46% believe public college should be free

79% support paid family and medical leave

58% support legalizing weed

63% oppose raising the age at which citizens can start collecting Social Security benefits

68% oppose privatizing Social Security

67% support lifting the cap on Social Security contributions to ensure continued solvency of the program

88% support universal background checks for gun purchases

70% oppose ending federal funding for Planned Parenthood

80% believe that we have more work to do on gender equality

76% believe sexism is still a problem

58% support federally funded universal health care

65% accept the scientific consensus that humans are driving climate change

64% believe climate change is a serious concern

69% support leaving Roe v Wade in place

85% support ensuring access to quality, affordable birth control

61% support cutting military spending

58% oppose deporting people brought to the country illegally as children

I’m sure there’s more, but those are the issues I could think of off the top of my head. If you would like to suggest other topics for me to research or know of polling on other topics you can direct me to, please leave a comment and I’ll add it to the list.

At any rate, the point is that right now we have a government pursuing policies which the majority of Americans disagree with, often by huge margins. For whatever reason, these people and their supporters seem to be under the impression that they matter more than the rest of us and that they are entitled to force their will on us. How did this happen, you ask? Seeing as we’re supposedly a democracy of the people, by the people and for the people and all. Well, it’s not because they’re winning more votes, that’s for sure:

No wonder 85% of Americans say our political system is rigged.
