To prepare the application and documents for 8a certification it takes plenty of time. It almost takes 6 to 8 weeks to arrange the documents and fill the form to establish that the applicant is eligible for the program.

· Social disadvantage- the owner must be an American and have their blood heritage form a recognized minority group. Native American Indians need to prove to the State or Federally recognized tribe. Women, service-disabled veterans are also included but they need to prove their social disadvantaged to obtain the 8a certification.

· Economic disadvantage- this is a complicated issue and you can contact them for assistance. It criterion does not include the spouse’s income or assets.

The average income should not be more than $250,000,

Net worth should not be more than $25,000

The total asset value should be less than $4,000,000 of the applicant for 8a certification.

· Ethical issues- the owner must be free from felonies or misdemeanors in the past. If minor at that time, the SBA looks for any repeat actions.

· The firm must not have any control issues- the company must be owned and controlled by the owner itself.

· The firm has the potential to successfully complete the federal contracts — the owner must be full time engaged to the profitable and firm with a positive net worth and it should be in business for minimum of2 years. The current updates need to be included in the 8a certification.
