How Many Muslims are Radical
Numbers. Liberals can’t argue with numbers, right? You’re probably wrong, but we’ll dive into the numbers anyway.
There are currently 1.6 billion Muslims in the world today. That’s 23% of the global population. Islam is currently the second largest religion, but is the fastest growing. At the current rate, Islam will be the largest religion by the end of the century.
What is Sharia Law?
Sharia Law is based off the actions and words of Muhammad, which are called “Sunnah,” and the Quran. There aren’t any countries that currently govern using just Sharia Law, but many base their judicial systems from Sharia. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan, Oman, Pakistan, ect. punish blasphemy with the death penalty. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, ect. are all countries where judicial systems have been based off Sharia Law, and where homosexuality is punishable by death. Whether you are pro LGBT or against them, the disregard for human life and individual’s rights is appalling. A few laws from Sharia include:
- Theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand
- Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death.
- Criticizing Muhammad or denying that he is a prophet is punishable by death.
- man can marry an infant girl and consummate the marriage when she is 9 years old.
- Girls’ clitoris should be cut (Muhammad’s words, Book 41, Kitab Al-Adab, Hadith 5251).
- Muslims should engage in Taqiyya and lie to non-Muslims to advance Islam.
- A woman who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).
That is only mentioning a few. If you want to learn more about Sharia Law visit the link at the bottom of the page.
How many Muslims Practice Sharia Law?
Pew Research a non-partisan research organization conducted a study that consisted of 38,000 face-to-face interviews with Muslims in 39 countries. The studies showed that 84% of Muslims in South Asia support Sharia as the official law, 64% in the Middle East-North Africa region, 74% in the Middle East- North Africa region, 77% in Southeast Asia, 18% in Southern and Eastern Europe, and 12% in Central Asia. Remember that these numbers are of Muslims who support making Sharia the official law of their country, not those who follow all or some of Sharia.
A very small percentage of Muslims believe suicide bombings are rarely or never justified. When Pew asked if Sharia should only apply to Muslims the majority said yes. Although you can make the argument, if they want to make it the law of the land then doesn’t that apply to everyone?
Of all the studies conducted it is estimated that 680 million Muslims can be considered radical.
