I always illustrate my blog posts with photographs that I take myself. I find it helpful to link the visual and the reflective written word. I am always on the lookout for images that might be useful in the future, especially to illustrate themes around citizenship. Here’s an image I took in Australia, and which I am delighted is now being used to illustrate a blogpost on the GlobalCIT website on new proposals for citizenship stripping in Australia.
The sculpture — gifted by the artist Andrew Rogers to the University — is called Individuals, and it was previously exhibited outside the UN building in New York. It addresses the relationship between the individual and the community. Now it stands outside Sydney Law School, where I enjoyed an excellent and productive short stay during my trip to Australia in 2018.
