Requiem For The Man in Last Place

Here lies a Nice Guy

Buried under a mound of hope

Broken dreams scattered over the grave like rotten rose petals.

The stench of despair pungent enough to keep the bravest of souls away

No headstone, no witnesses, and no service.

His child 500 miles away and unaware of his father’s pain

Because the only person that mattered

Ran away from the scene of the crime.

Only the act was committed by the one in the ground,

Who both loved too hard and didn’t have enough to save himself.

Tomorrow the sun will still rise in the East

But tonight, there is no peace in the city

For it’s time for walls go up and abandoned streets full of memories to burn one last time.
