One week off should not hinder the form of Dustin Johnson going into the 2020 U.S. Open.
The FedEx Cup champion enters Winged Foot Golf Club as the hottest golfer in the field and the favorite to win the second major of the year.
Johnson’s run of four straight top-two finishes began at the PGA Championship, where he was one of many golfers in contention for the win on the back nine of the final round.
There is a chance the U.S. Open follows the trend created at the PGA Championship in which a large amount of high-profile players are in the mix for first come Sunday afternoon.
However, there is also a scenario in which some of the contenders from August’s major falter based off of their poor form throughout the FedEx Cup.

Dustin Johnson Earns Another Top-5 Finish

Johnson is the easy pick to win the tournament, or at least finish high up on the leaderboard.
The 2016 U.S. Open champion has won two of his last four starts and navigated loaded fields and tough courses during his top-two streak.
While most golfers struggled with the difficulty of Olympia Fields Country Club, Johnson put together three rounds in the 60s to take second at the BMW Championship last month.
That performance might be the most relatable experience Johnson can bank on this weekend if Winged Foot Golf Club plays as difficult as it did in 2006, when Geoff Ogilvy won at five-over par.
In addition to his current hot streak, Johnson has been competitive in most of his recent major appearances.
Since his third-place mark at the 2018 U.S. Open, Johnson finished in the top three on four occasions in a six-tournament span.
All signs point to Johnson having a successful weekend in Mamaroneck, New York, and if he does not win, he should at least be in contention over the final nine holes.
Bryson DeChambeau Struggles To Contend

Bryson DeChambeau returned from the shutdown with plenty of hype after he bulked up in attempt to drive the ball further.
For two months, DeChambeau was the most consistent golfer on the PGA Tour, as he produced a victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and five top-10 finishes.
The last of those high placings occurred at the PGA Championship, when he landed in a tie for fourth.
Since then, DeChambeau has missed the cut at the Northern Trust, took 50th at the BMW Championship and landed in 22nd at the Tour Championship.
The 22nd-place finish looks even worse when you consider he finished in the bottom third of a 30-man field.
If you take away his fourth-place finish at the year’s first major, DeChambeau does not have a good track record at the sport’s biggest events.
Since 2018, he has missed the cut on three occasions and placed inside the top 25 only once, at the 2018 U.S. Open.
With his form in decline, it is hard to sell DeChambeau as a potential U.S. Open winner, and because of that, he may be the best golfer to fade when betting on the tournament.
