Mentor AND Motivator

Blugold of the Week — Terry Everson

Describe your Blugold success story.

I have created Everson Consulting and my professional sharing site as a place where I can post resources for business professionals who are committed to Leadership Development. They are there for the taking. I also have a LinkedIn Group, Chief Training Officers, to help drive the education and training of Training and Development professionals.

Describe the path you took to achieve your success story.

Life is nothing more than a major Flukefest. Stuff happens, we meet people, we take chances, and we better be ready to roll with the punches.

“The secret is to know that each decision we make has consequences and we must own those consequences for good or bad.”

How did UW-Eau Claire impact your journey to success?

When I transferred to UWEC in the fall of ’68 I had no way of knowing how my life would change. I fell in love with the school, the faculty and staff, my fraternity brothers, and the city of Eau Claire. I am also the proud papa of two Blugolds. Both my son Scott and my daughter Nikki are Blugold grads.

Do you have any advice for current students?

Being a Blugold is a gift but with that gift comes responsibilities. Reach out to your classmates, share your successes, and be willing to ask for help if you need it. I believe every Blugold needs to become a mentor to another Blugold. For that reason I am going to try to establish a formal Blugold Mentoring program, matching up seasoned professionals with students preparing to move through the labyrinth that is the working world. It isn’t fair and sometimes it isn’t fun, but everyday is a great learning experience.
