Get your time back — stop watching videos like it’s 2010
Whether you’re learning to code on Treehouse or binge-watching Making a Murderer on Netflix, you can get time back by watching video content at a faster playback speed.
How to watch HTML5 video at a faster playback speed
You can use the following tools to get time back when you watch streaming HTML5 or downloaded videos.
Recommended Starting Speeds
Optimal playback speed is highly subjective, but I listed my starting playback speeds based on content below.
- 1.3x for entertainment content (e.g., TV shows, movies, etc.)
- 1.5x for educational content (e.g., lectures, tutorials, etc.)
How much time can you save?
Watching a video at 1.3x-1.5x the default speed will give you back 23% to 33% of the original viewing time. For a 60-minute video, watching at 1.5x gives you 20 minutes back. Over the course of this year, your time savings can add up to days and weeks!
What will you do with the time you get back?
