Yeah I get your point about noise. So there’s really two fades, one on the left and one on the right, and they sort of have different utility. The one on the right seems completely unjustifiable to me. The one on the left is solving the noise problem. I guess I’m not fully convinced there is a noise problem, as the obscuration that occurs seems to effectively neutralize the text.
But your point is by far the most valid: taking a small hit on the cognitive load of additional motion during the fade, to avoid the larger hit on the noise of overlapping text. I’m buying that :) Kinda. Still wanting a more elegant solution. In general, fades are lazy solutions, and I try to discourage them when possible. I agree that in this case, this may be the smallest cognitive hit possible to solve the noise problem.
